Found October 14, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
from Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants, As was indicated after Saturday’s 5-3 loss at St. Louis, the Rangers certainly do have questions about Marty Biron’s suitability to be their backup goalie this season. GM Glen Sather said today as the Rangers began their noon practice that Biron and right wing Arron Asham are indeed both on waivers today. There is a 24-hour period prior to noon tomorrow in which either can be claimed by another team. After that, either veteran can be re-assigned to Hartford (AHL). While the Rangers practiced, Rick Nash, who was sent home from the road trip on Thursday with a head injury sustained in the first period of Tuesday’s 9-2 loss at San Jose, is not on the ice with the team. Nash was said to be at the practice facility earlier in the day, likely for re-evaluation, but did not skate or work out off ice. continued

Nash placed on IR

Per Pat Leonard, the Rangers have placed concussed winger Rick Nash on injured reserve. The move is a paperwork move, and it allows the Rangers an extra roster spot to call up an additional forward for Wednesday’s game in Washington after waiving Arron Asham. It is expected that the Rangers will call up one or both of J.T. Miller and Chris Kreider. Note that this is not LTIR, the...

Update – Rick Nash placed on IR, still has symptoms

According to sources including ESPN the New York Rangers have place Rick Nash on the injured reserve list. After being the subject of a high hit from Brad Stuart, defenseman of the San Jose Sharks, Rick Nash is still not skating after nearly a week. This however is not the worst part. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault explained, according to the team’s Twitter account that...

Rangers should use current situation to fast track J.T. Miller

Now the Rangers called up Miller he needs to be used properly While it is anything other than ideal that the Rangers are still without Rick Nash or any semblance of  self-confidence, the promotion of J.T. Miller to the Rangers gives the club a chance to let the kid succeed. Miller comes to the Rangers in great form (4 goals in 3 games with Hartford), and likely brimming with confidence...

NY Rangers place Rick Nash on IR with concussion

Monday was a tough day for the Rangers and they didn’t even play a game. Coach Alain Vigneault said after practice in Greenburgh that right wing Rick Nash “is still feeling some symptoms” from Tuesday’s concussion in San Jose and the team placed Nash on injured reserve. “Until I hear otherwise I don’t expect him back” Vigneault said. Nash has missed two games already...

Rick Nash Still Has Concussion Symptoms

Alain Vigneault provided some updates on Rick Nash and stated that he is still suffering from concussion-like symptoms. Following this morning's practice Alain Vigneault met with the media and provided some minor updates regarding the status of Rick Nash. Nash was absent from practice yet again this morning and it has been noted that he will likely miss 7-10 days before returning...

Asham and Biron on waivers

Per Ryan Rishaug, the Rangers have placed forward Arron Asham and goalie Martin Biron on waivers. Asham, who had a strong camp and preseason, has struggled a bit out of the gate, but then again so has pretty much everyone. Biron was solid in the first period in St. Louis, but let in a pair of softies in the second that eventually saw him yanked from the game. Waiving Biron creates...

Foreshadowing moves to come

One or both of Miller and Kreider are expected to be recalled today. After Arron Asham and Martin Biron were placed on waivers yesterday, there was a lot of discussion about what moves the Rangers would be making. I heard everything from a trade (no specifics, just “they are going to make a trade”) to a much more rational call up. In my humble opinion, the Rangers aren’t going...

Rangers waive Aaron Asham and Martin Biron

The New York Rangers are off to a simply abysmal start with a 1-4-0 record and a minus-16 goal differential so something has to change. On Monday GM Glen Sather made the first moves. Joining the waiver wire on Monday were forward Arron Asham as well as veteran backup goaltender Martin Biron. Biron being cut is a surprise even though his numbers are as bad as you'll see in the...

Biron, Asham sent to AHL by Rangers

Veteran goalie Martin Biron and rugged forward Arron Asham are being assigned by the New York Rangers to Hartford of the AHL after clearing waivers. The moves were announced on Tuesday, one day after the players were placed on waivers following New York's rough 1-4 start to the season. The Rangers recalled center J.T. Miller and goalie Cam Talbot from Hartford to replace them...

Asham, Biron clear waivers

Per Pierre LeBrun, both Arron Asham and Martin Biron have cleared waivers. Both will be (have not at the moment) assigned to the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL. However, Biron has hinted he might retire instead. Can’t blame him, he’s got a family to think about. Tweet

Cap savings from the recent roster moves

Note: Sorry for no post this morning, there was a scheduling issue. With both Arron Asham and Martin Biron assigned to the AHL yesterday, the Rangers cleared a total of $1.85 million in cap space ($925k a piece). Although their cap hits are higher (Asham – $1 million, Biron – $1.3 million), the “Redden Rule” means that they don’t get to bury the entire contract. Asham...

Eklund: Biron and Asham on Waivers

It was a surprise to me that Martin Biron was placed on waivers today. I'm not as surprised by Arron Asham also being waived. Chasing down a Rangers rumor now but what I'm hearing for the short term is that Cam Talbot will be backing up Henrik Lundqvist. The move will save some money on the cap for the Rangers. More to come...

Biron and Asham discuss being on waivers

Coach Alain Vigneault skated over to Marty Biron and Arron Asham individually as the Rangers’ practice concluded today and informed the two veterans during their separate on-ice meetings that they had been placed on waivers likely signaling the end of their tenures with the Rangers. As detailed in the previous blog post with Rick Nash (head injury/concussion) and Carl Hagelin...

Will The Players Get Shanahan’s Message?

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail, You’ve had the sense that Shanahan is trying to send a clear signal to players this year about hits to the head. After a suspension-filled preseason that saw, among others, Vancouver Canucks’ Zack Kassian banned for eight games, five of them in the regular season, Shanahan had already suspended two other far more skilled players...
