The New York Rangers placed center Mike Rupp on injured reserve Saturday. Rupp is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week. Controversial wing Sean Avery is expected to receive ice time in place of the 31-year-old Rupp, who collected one goal and 14 penalty minutes in seven games this season.

Lofty Expectations For Avery

When Sean Avery returns to the lineup tonight, it will be with very high expectations from the fans. Chants of “We Want Avery” rang down from the blue seats from the moment the Rangers touched home ice last week, and have continued in spurts throughout this homestand. When the Rangers play well, the chants are quiet, and sometimes met with harsh criticism from fans. But when...

Avery In Tomorrow, Rupp Will Undergo Surgery

According to Andrew Gross, head coach John Tortorella has confirmed that forward Sean Avery will be in the lineup for tomorrow's game against the Montreal Canadiens with Wojtek Wolski (groin) sitting out for sure. This will be Avery's first game of the season since he was only recalled from the Connecticut Whale of the AHL on Monday. Mike Rupp, meanwhile, will be undergoing...

Avery to debut with Rangers on Saturday

Sean Avery will return to the New York Rangers' lineup for Saturday's game against the Montreal Canadiens. The team confirmed that Avery will take the roster spot of Wojtek Wolski, who suffered a groin injury during Thursday's 2-1 win over Anaheim. Avery cleared re-entry waivers earlier in the week and was promoted from the team's American Hockey League affiliate...

Sean Avery is back for NY Rangers

Many Ranger fans love Sean Avery. Coach John Tortorella does not. Injuries have left him no choice and Saturday night the player that has antagonized rivals and had a rule named after him makes his regular-season debut. Most AHL players do not have banners demanding their recall at the big league affiliate's home opener. Most healthy scratches do not have their names chanted...

If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It

The Rangers are in the middle of a four game winning streak. A streak where they have looked dominant against some teams, and managed to get victories in games where they may not have shown up for the majority of the game. The top three lines are clicking, the defense pairs are playing above and beyond anything expected, and the goaltending has been spectacular. But yet, there are...

Avery's almost all the way back

RANGERS FANS who brought signs and chanted for the return of Sean Avery will get what they wished for Saturday night.

TheNYRBlog Reader Has Perfect End to a Great Night

TheNYRBlog reader Beth K. was lucky enough to run into Sean Avery after last night's Rangers victory over Anaheim. Beth says there were a lot of fans waiting for him after the game to offer their congrats on being called back up with the team...As always please continue to e-mail (nyrfan94@yahoo.com) your Rangers related pictures to me so I can post them on the blog.Remember...

Wojtek Wolski Out; Sean Avery In Against Montreal

… as I said over the last week, I would much rather see Avery in against the smaller, faster Montreal team than last night against Anaheim.  This groin issue for Wolski is going to end up costing him a season eventually. This is happening way to much and way to soon into the season. Let’s [...]

Will Sean Avery Be Wasted By John Tortorella?

<img border="0 src="http://sports-at-work.com/ http:="" bleacherreport.com="" images="" pixel.gif"="" mce_src="http://bleacherreport.com/images/pixel.gif" "="">If one conclusion can be drawn from the handful of NHL games played thus far, it is simply that the Rangers are desperately lacking in terms...

Avery To Start Montreal With Wolski Out (Groin); Rupp Knee Surgery Looming

The moment many have been waiting for has arrived as Andrew Gross is reporting that Sean Avery will be in the lineup tomorrow against Montreal.  Wolski is having an MRI on the groin and the results will be out tomorrow.  The New York Rangers will be without Wojtek Wolski who is out once again with a groin injury.  Should there be anything serious then he would likely...

Rangers top Canadiens as Avery returns

Erik Christensen scored one of New York's three first-period goals, and the Rangers overcame a 1-for-9 effort on the power play to hang on for a 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night. Defensemen Dan Girardi and Michael Del Zotto also scored in the first to pace the Rangers, who swarmed Montreal in the opening period with a 16-3 shot advantage and earned their...

Habs-Rangers Analysis

Les Habitants défait! French just kind of rolls off your tongues doesn’t it? I think it does. It’s the best language to swear in. “Nom de dieu de putain de bordel de ***** de saloperie de connard d’enculer ta mère. It’s like wiping your arse with silk. I love it.” If you can place that quote, silk tie for you! Anywho, the Rangers defeated the Canadiens in a very...

The Rangers Are Awfully Hot Right Now

A week ago, the Rangers were in panic mode and summoning Sean Avery from Hartford in an attempt to inject some life in a team that showed very little of it through the first nine games of the season. Mission accomplished, although it is hard to say just what Avery has done to turn the team's fortunes around. He has played sparingly in two games, but the Rangers have won four...
