The Rangers recalled Chris Kreider from the AHL today, presumably to replace Brian Boyle in the lineup. Boyle limped off the ice in the first period of the game last night and did not return to the game. Boyle also did not skate yesterday, so it’s a safe assumption that Kreider will play in tomorrow’s game against the Florida Panthers. In six games since his return to the Whale (his third stint this season), Kreider has a goal and three assists. In 48 games, Kreider has a line of 12-11-23 with a -11 rating and 73 PIMs. Tweet

Musings; Tame the Cats edition

Rick Nash needs to find twine again. Starting tonight. It’s a game day. It’s the Florida Panthers who always seem to trip up our boys in blue. If ever there was an occasion not to play down to the level of your opponents it’s tonight. Let’s jump into the musings. Rick Nash needs to be better. The past few games – starting with a few turnovers against the Islanders – he...

Goal breakdown: Rangers rout Panthers, maintain playoff spot

The Rangers righted the ship in a big way tonight, routing the Panthers 6-1 in a must win game. The Blueshirts came out firing, and just completely dominated the Cats in every facet of the game. By the time the middle of the third period rolled around, it was clear that the Panthers had given up, as their breakdowns became more egregious and their effort level tanked completely....

You can't beat ghosts

John Tortorella (New York Rangers) I had a prior engagement which kept me from watching the New York Rangers/Philadelphia Flyer's game live on Tuesday night so I set up the DVR and even turned off the cell phone to make sure that the outcome wasn't spoiled. Still in the time it took for the Flyers to dust off the Kate Smith recording of "God Bless America", I knew...

Rangers’ Carl Hagelin slashes the Flyers’ Brayden Schenn in the nuts (VIDEO)

YouTube The Rangers winger Carl Hagelin obviously doesn’t have much respect for Flyers forward Brayden Schenn.  Tuesday night, Hagelin gave Schenn a little “who’s your daddy?” slash to a region no man wants to get hit. Game officials either share Hagelin’s lack of respect for Schenn or were skating with their eyes closed because there was no penalty called on the play.

Game 43 Open Thread: Panthers at Rangers

Photo by Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports This is a must win for the Rangers. They dropped the ball in Philly against what was more or less an AHL defense, and now they desperately need two points against the Panthers. They are still on pace to finish their final ten games at that 6-3-1 pace we determined would be enough to make the playoffs, but they sure are making us sweat for it....

Rangers-Sabres Preview

The New York Rangers are safe in the knowledge that they control their own fate in the race for a playoff spot. The Buffalo Sabres can only wish for that kind of luxury. A regulation win against the Sabres on Friday night would move the visiting Rangers a step closer to a postseason berth while eliminating Buffalo from contention. New York rebounded from a lackluster 4-2 loss...

Flyers 4, Rangers 2

As the shortened regular season heads towards its conclusion, playoff hopefuls need every point they can get. Tough Loss in Philly

With a 4-2 loss to the Flyers, last night became a worst case scenario for the New York Rangers.  Not only did they lose, but the Senators, Islanders, and Jets all won with each gaining 2 points in the standings.  With only 6 games remaining the Rangers are clinging to the 8th seed in the East, tied with the Jets, by virtue of having 1 game in hand. A sloppy first period saw the...
