Rangers forward Mike Rupp is expected to miss four to six weeks after having surgery Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee. The rugged center, who has played in only half of New York's 14 games this season, has sat out seven games since his last appearance on Oct. 24 at Winnipeg. Rupp has only one point in seven games - a game-winning goal at Vancouver on Oct. 18. The goal was scored on Rupp's lone shot this season. Rupp, 31, joined the Rangers during the summer after leaving the Pittsburgh Penguins for a three-year, $4.5 million contract. His injury prompted New York to recall Sean Avery from the AHL to help provide a physical presence in Rupp's absence. Rupp has had two fights and 14 penalty minutes this season.

Time for Dubious Dubinsky to Break Out of Slump

Over the summer the New York Rangers re-signed 25-year-old forward Brandon Dubinsky to a new contract that would pay him $16.8 million over the next four years. At the time, Dubinsky was coming off a career season in which he led the entire Blueshirt squad in scoring with 24 goals and 54 points. In fourteen games so far this season, however, Dubinsky's production has been subpar...

Rangers Looking to Dan Girardi for Leadership

The New York Rangers have been without alternate captain Marc Staal since the beginning of the season, which is a situation that I think everyone is aware of by now. In his place has stepped in Dan Girardi, who's been given Staal's "A" for the time being. So far, Girardi has accepted the responsibility that comes along with wearing a letter and has made the best...

The Good Erik Christensen

Erik Christensen could be one of the most infuriating New York Rangers skaters of all time. When he wants to be, Christensen is one of the most skilled players on the team. The problem is of course the phrase “when he wants to be.” During his first seven games of the year, Christensen was invisible, and played poorly both with the puck and without the puck. The last four games...

Gaborik leading way for streaking Rangers

Marian Gaborik and the New York Rangers have legged out a five game win streak after a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. The Rangers (8-3-3) are finally playing up to expectations after a long road trip to start the season left them handicapped as Madison Square Garden continued its now infamous transformation project. Clearly Gaborik is the offensive leader of...

… Rangers are finally skating well and I see them having a solid game against Ottawa tonight.

Anisimov & Stepan Elevate Their Games

Jim Cerny at Blueshirts United says that Artem Anisimov and Derek Stepan have been able to elevate their games since being placed on a line with Marian Gaborik. Here's Gaborik on his new linemates..."Step is really strong with the puck, and is playing with a lot of confidence," noted Gaborik. "And Artie is doing a real good job on left wing, a spot I don't think...

Avery Proves Worth With Fight

Before last night's game Zenon Konopka, or whatever his name is, was running his mouth about the Wojtek Wolski hit on Daniel Alfredsson and how there was going to be bad blood on the ice.Well, on his first shift of the game Sean Avery went right over to Konopka and let him know what he thought about those comments. Konopka was not heard from the rest of the game. Minus when he...

Who’s Line Is It Anyway? Rangers @ Senators Post Game Thoughts…

When the Rangers played the Sens last time they had some very different looking lines. This time they matched up with the Sens with a red hot trio of Artem Anisimov, Derek Stepan, and Marian Gaborik leading the way. And did they ever lead the way. Gaborik with 2 goals, Stepan with a goal and 2 assists, Anisimov with 2 assists, and probably should have gotten credit for a...

Pregame: Strive for Five as Rangers Visit Ottawa

After taking four out of six consecutive home games, the New York Rangers are back on the road tonight as they take on the Ottawa Senators at ScotiaBank Place. In their last meeting two weeks ago, the Rangers collapsed on a three-goal lead and ended up falling to the Sens in a shootout at Madison Square Garden. Tonight, taking the ice as a team with new-found confidence, the Blueshirts...

Will Derek Stepan and Chris Kreider Be The Doug Weight and Tony Amonte Of This Generation?

Doug Weight and Tony Amonte. How I used to cringe throughout the 90’s whenever I saw them dominating the NHL. Both of them the crown jewels of the New York Rangers prospect list in the early 90’s. Both were college bred American born players and both absolute necessary trade chips towards building the 1994 Stanley [...]

Rangers hold off Sens to run win streak to five

Marian Gaborik scored twice, Derek Stepan had a goal and two assists, and the New York Rangers extended their winning streak to five with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night.
