Rangers right wing Arron Asham is sitting out against the Boston Bruins on Wednesday night after he hurt his groin in New York's previous game.
Asham, injured Sunday during a 6-3 home loss to Pittsburgh, has played in only one of New York's first three games. He missed the opener at Boston on Saturday when he served a suspension from last year's postseason while playing with Pittsburgh.
Asham got into a fight right off the opening faceoff in his Rangers debut on Sunday and logged a total of 5 minutes, 53 seconds of ice time.
Defenseman Steve Eminger is taking Asham's place in the lineup, and Stu Bickel is moving up from defense to fill Asham's spot at forward.
Rangers rookie Chris Kreider is in the lineup after sustaining a hard shot to the jaw from Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik on Sunday.

Taylor Pyatt has displayed impressive hockey sense in his first two games
A two game sample size is hardly enough to evaluate anyone, and clearly none of the Rangers played particularly well in the season’s opening weekend, but here are some initial impressions of the newest Blueshirts:

Gaborik goes to the net, something that’s he does more and more as a Ranger
This isn’t just about Marian Gaborik breaking out in the biggest of big ways with the hat trick against Boston last night. This is about his overall performance. Throughout the game Gaborik went to the net looking for chances, for scraps, and for rebounds. He wasn’t afraid to control the puck along...
The two Rangers prospects playing in the WHL –Michael St. Croix (Edmonton Oil Kings) and Shane McColgan (Saskatoon Blades– were each in action last night, with both teams posting impressive wins. McColgan notched an assist in the Blades’ 4-1 victory over Brandon, and St. Croix notched a goal and an assist in the Oil Kings’ 7-0 spanking of Mosse Jaw.

The irony of the Rangers unimpressive start is that this team could really benefit from Wade Redden on the bottom pair. His passing ability and experience would have been a boost to the bottom pair. Clearly though, that was never going to happen, and all jokes aside two bad losses doesn’t mean a general manager should blow up his roster and beg for...
With Gilroy, Asham and Kreider scratched, Steve Eminger will play 2nd straight game on defense and Stu Bickel will play on fourth line again

Jim Cerny at newyorkrangers.com adds that Kris Newbury will also be in the line-up.

The Rangers got a scare Sunday night when one of their top prospects took a bone-jarring hit, but it sounds like there’s nothing to worry about.
Rangers rookie forward Chris Kreider skated into the offensive zone with his head down, and Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik made the youngster pay in a big way. Orpik delivered a huge hit, planting his shoulder into Kreider’s chest...
Per Pat Leonard, Torts has decided to shake up the lines a bit today:
#NYR practice lines: Nash-Richards-Gaborik, Kreider-Stepan-Callahan, Hagelin-Boyle-Pyatt, Rupp-Halpern-Bickel
It’s worth noting that Arron Asham is not in the lineup for now. The safe assumption is that Steve Eminger replaces Bickel on the bottom pairing. Although that can change by tomorrow.

NEW YORK -- Marian Gaborik's third goal of the game, 27 seconds into overtime, sent hats flying onto the rink while giving the New York Rangers their first win of the season and the Boston Bruins their first defeat. Gaborik completed his hat trick and the Rangers' 4-3 win at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night by tapping in a deflection of his own miss on a breakaway...

Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid and New York Rangers forward Brian Boyle are two big boys and this was a pretty good fight in my opinion. This is one thing that I like about the NHL, something happens on the ice and it's settled the players on the ice and not the officials. I score the fight a win by McQuaid. Unfortunately, the Boston Bruins are losing 2-0 after one period of hockey.
Rangers 4, Bruins 3 (OT)
The Bruins headed into the Big Apple on Wednesday night for a nationally televised rematch of last Saturday’s season-opener against the Rangers, which the B’s won 3-1.
