Found October 18, 2013 on Sports Injury Alert:
Jason Brough of NBCSports reports that New York Rangers captain, Ryan Callahan, will miss at least three to four weeks with a broken thumb. Callahan suffered the injury last game against the Washington Capitals.  The Blueshirts are already without forward Rick Nash, who took an elbow to the head last Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks and Carl Hagelin who is rehabbing his shoulder following offseason shoulder surgery. The Rangers as a team are under-performing, though Callahan has been hot of late with three goals in the past two games.  Callahan is also recovering from offseason shoulder surgery so the Rangers should handle this new injury with Phil Pritchard’s white gloves because Callahan is starting to become injury prone. To fill Callahan’s spot on the bench, the Rangers called up forward Darroll Powe from AHL Hartford. The Rangers are a defense, grind it out dump and chase type team, not an up-tempo flyer kind of group and that style of play has them struggling. Hagelin and ...

After scoring a goal against the Washington Capitals last night, Rangers captain Ryan Callahan nearly had a catastrophic celebration fail. As he went to sweep the ice with his empty glove hand, Callahan caught an edge and stumbled towards the endboards. Fortunately he was able to catch himself on the divider between the glass and boards and brushed off the whole mishap by posing...

The Musings: Has the tide turned?

Definition of essential: Ryan Callahan It’s always easier to write the Musings after a win. Last night was a huge relief to many Rangers fans so let’s talk about it. John Moore: If Moore continues with performances like against the Capitals then he could quickly go past Mike Del Zotto in the pecking order. A quick release, a good overall game and solid defensively, Moore still...

Ryan Callahan celebrates scoring the eventual game winner with his Rangers teammates in Thursday night’s 2-0 victory over the Washington Capitals (photo by Greg Fiume/ It was a pretty brutal West Coast road trip for the New York Rangers, losing four of their first five games but it seemed like a return to the Eastern Time zone was just what the team needed. As for the Capitals...

The New Jersey Devils are enduring the worst start in franchise history. The New York Rangers are dealing with a different type of loss. The Devils get an eighth attempt at their first win of 2013-14 on Saturday night as they try to take advantage of a visiting Rangers team playing without captain Ryan Callahan. New Jersey (0-4-3) has started a season with seven straight losses...

Rapid Rewind: Still Searching

Ryan Callahan and his teammates were simply better Wednesday night in DC. The Government shutdown may be almost over, but the Washington Capitals’ struggles apparently are not.  Adam Oates’ men were humbled on Wednesday night at Verizon Center, falling to the New York Rangers 2-0 on home ice to break whatever momentum they may have picked up with a 4-2 win against Edmonton...

The injury bug continues to haunt the Rangers, as the club has announced that Ryan Callahan is out 3-4 weeks with a broken thumb. Rangers shutout Capitals 2-0

WASHINGTON — Nothing has gone the way of the New York Rangers this season. Through the teams first five games nothing was going their way nor were they playing up to their full potential. With guys like Brad Richards, Ryan Callahan, Henrik Lundqvist, and Rick Nash on paper this should be a tough team. Wednesday […]

Game 6: Right the ship

(AP Photo/Charles Krupa) The Rangers have lost three in a row, two in epic fashion, and now stand at 1-4 to start the season. Most of us said we would be happy with a 4-4-1 start to the season, considering the road trip. That’s still doable, but it begins tonight with a win against a Washington Capitals team that is also struggling. Their powerplay is lethal though, so it’s a...
