Rangers' Ryan Strome to miss Penguins game with lower-body injury

The New York Rangers will be without a key figure when they look to notch their second consecutive victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in less than a full week, this time at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.

According to Wes Crosby of the NHL's website, Rangers forward Ryan Strome won't play Tuesday evening due to an unspecified lower-body injury he picked up during the first period of Sunday's 5-4 overtime win over the Buffalo Sabres.

"Like I said, the trainer tells me day-to-day," Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said of Strome's future status on Tuesday. "So possible for tomorrow [at the Detroit Red Wings], I guess. But I don't know. One at a time."

Per Mollie Walker of the New York Post, it's unclear when Strome picked up this setback in the opening period of Sunday's encounter. Gallant remarked after the win that he did not "see anything serious" regarding the issue.

The Rangers smashed the Penguins 5-1 at Madison Square Garden this past Friday night, and Strome recorded an assist in that blowout. The 28-year-old has tallied 15 goals and 30 assists across 62 games this season.

New York enters the night third in the Metropolitan Division standings with 89 points, just one point back of the Penguins and six off the pace set by the first-place Carolina Hurricanes. Both the Rangers and Hurricanes have a game in hand over Pittsburgh.
