TSN reports that the Rangers have signed Anton Stralman to a one-year, $900,000 contract.

Stralman, 25, has 11g, 63a and is a -40 during his first four years in the league.

According to Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record the Rangers have yet to confirm the signing.

Larry Brooks at the New York Post says the reason the the Rangers may not have announced the Stralman signing is because they are making plans to borrow close to an additional $3.975 million of cap space by placing Marc Staal on Long Term Injury exemption in conjunction with personnel moves (recalling Mats Zuccarello) that will bring the club as close as possible to the cap.

Brooks adds that because teams only gain the difference between a player's cap hit and the amount of cap space available at the time the athlete goes on LTI, the Rangers have yet to make the move with Staal because they haven't been close enough to the ceiling.

...while putting Staal on LTIR is terrible news, it's obviously the smart thing to do. Listen if the guy has to miss the entire season, that's what it has to be.

...the Stralman move obviously means the Rangers are not 100% comfortable with Eminger & Woywitka. Which I'm not sure I agree with as the defense in my opinion has been outstanding this season, especially playing without Staal. But I guess the depth can't hurt.

...found it funny that Woywitka steps up with a goal after the Stralman signing, very similar to EC's two assist performance after the Avery recall. As I've said, amazing what a little competition can do.

...with the Predators dropping 7 years, $49 million on Renne yesterday, maybe Weber is available. Not sure there's a young player or prospect I wouldn't give up for him.
