Pittsburgh-penguins
Two nights after losing to the Eastern Conference's worst team, the Phoenix Coyotes handled the best. Zbynek Michalek scored against his former team, his first goal in 83 games, and the Coyotes became the first Pacific Division team to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in regulation this season with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night. Mike Ribeiro had a goal and an assist for Phoenix. Radim Vrbata scored the third goal for the Coyotes, who were coming off perhaps their worst loss of the season, 3-2 at home to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. ''I think we had something to prove,'' Michalek said. ''We believed in this room that when we play the right way, we can play against any team. I think tonight was a great effort by everybody.'' Evgeni Malkin scored for the Penguins, who entered 8-0-1 against Pacific Division foes. Michalek's previous goal was scored on March 5, 2012, for Pittsburgh against Phoenix. ''It's been almost two ye...

Coyotes rebound with complete effort against Penguins

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Consistency was the challenge Coyotes coach Dave Tippett laid at his team's feet after an inexplicable loss to the Sabres on Thursday. Consistency was exactly what Phoenix delivered for 60 minutes on Saturday against the Eastern Conference's top dog. The Coyotes' centers were all rock solid, Radim Vrbata buried a huge third-period chance, Mike Smith...

Paul Bissonnette, Keith Yandle and Shane Doan offer up Super Bowl Predictions

Paul Bissonnette, Keith Yandle and Shane Doan worked together with the Phoenix Coyotes production crew to create this hysterical video. The three of them offer up their Super Bowl predictions and then discuss some different prop bets for the big game. It’s easy to see that Bissonnette was born to be in front of a camera. [YouTube] The post Paul Bissonnette, Keith Yandle and Shane...

Oliver Ekman-Larsson willing to scrap

The evolution of Coyotes defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s game has focused on his defending style, his passing and his shot. But one of the more-noticeable developments is probably one of the more unexpected — he can be pretty scrappy, too. “I don’t know,” he said with a smile. “I’m a pretty mean person.” Obviously, his ability to defend and offensive instincts...

Young Phoenix Coyotes Fan Shreds Air Guitar To ‘Free Bird’ (GIF)

Who says the Phoenix Coyotes don’t have passionate fans? This one young Coyotes fan was the life of the party when Phoenix hosted the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, tearing it up on the air guitar as Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird” pumped through the speakers at Jobing.com Arena. Unfortunately, this youngster’s night ended in disappointment, as a Zemgus Girgensons goal early...

Game 55: Penguins vs. Coyotes Preview

Zbynek Michalek. Anyone remember that guy? Yeah. I don’t either. Mike Smith. Remember early in the season when he had more goals than Claude Giroux? That was fun. In all seriousness though, about the only storyline between these two teams coming into the game is Michalek hosting his former team. My joke about Michalek wasn’t…

Frustrations mounting for Phoenix Coyotes

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JOHN MARSHALL AP Sports Writer The Phoenix Coyotes' latest loss left captain Shane Doan red-faced with anger. Playing what had been deemed a must-win game, the Coyotes blew a 2-1 lead and lost to the last-place Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night. After the game, Doan was clearly agitated, calling the team's effort '...

Phoenix Coyotes take down the Pittsburgh Penguins at home

When they brainstormed how to combat the seemingly otherworldly skill of Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Sidney Crosby, defensemen Zbynek Michalek and Oliver Ekman-Larsson decided they would protect the middle of the ice and push Crosby and his linemates to the outside. Let them have shots from the boards, they thought. But what turned out to be one of the pair’s most successful...

QUICK CAP: Mike Smith. Pens can't beat him, lose 3-1.

So this gif will sum things up: This game wasn't that far from being tied. Mike Smith simply beat the Penguins. It didn't help the Pens fell down 2-0 early and just weren't able to recover. Malkin played the third period like he was he was in a contest with Vladmir Putin to see who is more unstable. It's actually more funny than it is concerning.   ...

RECAP: Game 55. Pens lose 3-1 to Coyotes

Let’s take two things into account.    1. It’s a January West Coast trip. 2. Shane Doan called out his team prior to this game.   It’s a recipe for a loss, really. The Penguins didn't even play all that horribly. Despite getting outshot, they had plenty of chances to get back into the game, but Mike Smith wouldn't let them...

return of the muskrats.

So sorry to keep you waiting, *******. So last night things didn't go so great for the Penguins. It was a game wherein we just could have done better. But none of that really matters...what matters is that we take time to remember that the "Phoenix Coyotes" are a sham team. Ever since PH Staff bought them years ago, moved them to New Orleans, heavily favored drafting...
