This was an ordinary game through two periods. Pens were playing like they typically do in Carolina. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are surprisingly awful this season.   But when the time came for two points to be deposited into the bank, the Pens wrote the check and cashed it in. With a top-2 seed already locked up, these remaining 8 games will be all about arranging the chairs and tables before the party comes. It's imperative that all the lines start to gel while everyone remains healthy. With two of the Pens' top 6 on the shelf, Kunitz-Malkin-Iginla need to carry the load for this Southeast road trip, and they kicked it off in grand fashion, coming through with the game-winner. As far as the defense goes, they're starting to rebound from the Buffalo and MSG massacres. Teams can't enter the zone with Douglas Murray on the ice right now. The best part about this game may be Beau Bennett's return to the lineup. Playing on the fourth line, he scored a huge game-tying goal and made the most of his 11:20 of ice time. A lot of people are wondering why he is on the fourth line, but it makes sense. Bennett can kind of hide out and play against some scrubs. But it's all moot when Crosby and Neal return. No clue what the lines will look like going into the dance.   Recap:     FIRST PERIOD Kind of sucked to see Carolina as a wasteland late in the season. Great atmosphere in that building in the playoffs. Engo fought Bill Cowher's son-in-law. There was a penalty-fest early on. No use trying to keep track of them. Carolina ended up with a power play, and Corvo Face scored from the point. 1-0. The Pens tied it when Bortuzzo came in back door and knocked home a Dupuis pass. 1-1. That girl loves it. Bortuzzo's goal celebration may be a turning point in the season. He was beyond jammed up. Great pass by Dupes. Later, Morrow found himself alone in the Canes zone… ...with 6 red shirts. He jobbed some dude then went top shelf while falling down. What a pass from Juice. 2-1. Two solid games in a row for Morrow. Gritty goal, bro. Sanguinetti answered that with another goal from the point. 2-2. SECOND PERIOD The second period was really pointless. The Pens had two powerplays and they didn't do anything with them. Jeff Skinner did a double-hand slash on Dupuis and everyone got pissed off. Orpik almost killed Skinner when he came out of the box. THIRD PERIOD Two minutes into the third, some guy scored to make it 3-2 Canes. Really had no reason to care about this game until the Pens had a 3-on-2 entering the Canes' zone. Beau Bennett got the puck from Craig Adams and went to the net. Bounced off a Cane. Goal. 3-3. Such a big goal by Bennett. May be the first goal of the season Tanner Glass was on the ice for. About 10 seconds later. Malkin awakes. He taps an Iginla rebound past Peters. 4-3. The goal set fire to the KMI line. Hopefully the goal breaks Malkin out of his little slump. Peters kept the Canes in it, while MAF made a few huge saves at the other end. Crews sent out a few search parties for Jordan Staal, but he could not be found. Dupes hit an empty-netter to give him 19 goals on the season. What. 5-3. Bye. MISCELLANEOUS -- Goal count is as follows: Despres, 2. Bortuzzo, 2. -- MAF. MAF. MAF. -- Still concerned about where Jokinen ends up when everyone gets healthy. Fourth-line center? Third-line center, with Sutter moving to a wing? alkfnkdsafnndfdnfg. Questions. -- Look out for Alex Ovechkin and the Caps.
