Hockey Fan Land:
On Saturday night, in a 4-0 victory over the Vancouver Canucks, the Edmonton Oilers played what I would call their best team game since the rebuild began. it was a record-setting night as the young Oilers scored on each of their first three shots in just 2:43 of game-play. It was the fastest three goals from the start of the game in Edmonton Oilers franchise history, breaking the record of three in 3:25 against Colorado in 1981.Taylor Hall has taken his game to another level in recent games. Tonight, Hall played arguably the best game of his career. In the process, erasing Wayne Gretzky's name from the Edmonton Oilers record book for the fastest hat trick in Edmonton Oilers history. Hall's third goal was netted with just 7:53 gone in the game, beating a standard of 12:38 set by Wayne Gretzky in 1986.Taylor Hall now has eight points in four games, (5 goals and 3 assists). The game was over for the Vancouver Canucks from that moment on. No one ever expects this kind of a result...

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
Edmonton Oilers’ blueliner Ladislav Smid has never been about numbers–certainly not goals and assists, rifling a puck past goalie Cory Schneider Saturday night, his first goal in a calendar year–but dollars and cents is another story. He does know what other purely defensive defencemen in the National Hockey League are making...
The Edmonton Oilers announced that they had signed upcoming unrestricted free agent defenceman Ladislav Smid to a four-year contract extension with an average annual value of $3.5 million.
