He will be there in mind body and soul. Yet how much actual work Claude Giroux does on the ice remains to be seen. The Flyers’ captain remains weeks away from playing competitively as he recovers from August surgery to repair two slashed tendons in his right hand. But Giroux can participate in some drills when Flyers training camp opens Thursday morning at Wells Fargo Center. He won’t be shooting pucks though. “I'm going day-by-day” Giroux said Wednesday. “Today I feel better. It's just how I'm going to feel. I think I can start touching pucks in a week maybe. “We want to wait till it heals and I get my full motion on it. When I do that's when I can get out and start stickhandling.” Giroux was injured on Aug. 15 in Ottawa when his golf club shattered on a wedge shot and severely cut the top of high right hand. He was practicing for an Ottawa Sun golfing event later that same day. Giroux underwent immediate surgery that afternoon and has been rehabbing nicely the club said since. Last year there was no full training camp for Giroux as a first-year captain because of the lockout. Peter Laviolette’s club began that season with injuries. It got worse as the team got off to a horrid 2-6 start.
