Red Wing place Dylan Larkin, J.T. Compher on IR, recall 3 players under emergency conditions

The Detroit Red Wings announced a series of transactions on Monday , placing forwards Dylan Larkin, J.T. Compher and Klim Kostin on Injury Reserve (IR).

The team also recalled forwards Zach Aston-Reese, Jonatan Berggren and Austin Czarnik from the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions.

Larkin, 27, left the Red Wings’ Saturday game against the Ottawa Senators with an upper-body injury after both Mathieu Joseph and Parker Kelly made contact with Larkin’s head in front of the Senators’ net.

The Red Wings’ captain temporarily laid motionless on the ice and required help from the team trainers to get to the dressing room.

As for Compher, he is being placed on IR retroactive to Dec. 5. The 28-year-old has been day-to-day with an undisclosed injury and hasn’t played since the Red Wings’ Dec. 5 matchup vs. the Buffalo Sabres.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Kostin is being placed on IR retroactive to Dec. 7. He hasn’t played since Detroit faced the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 7.

Ashton-Reese has four goals and three assists for seven points in 20 games with the AHL’s Griffins this season. The 29-year-old forward has 42 goals and 38 assists for 80 points in 307 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Anaheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs since 2017-18.

Berggren, 23, has one assist in four games with the Red Wings this season. He also has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points in 16 games with the Griffins this season. The Red Wings’ second round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft has 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points in 71 career NHL games.

Lastly, Czarnik has one assist in 11 games this season with the Red Wings. The five-foot-nine forward has three goals and four assists for seven points in nine games with the Griffins this season. Czarnik, 30, has played parts in eight NHL seasons with the Red Wings, the Boston Bruins, the Calgary Flames, the New York Islanders and the Seattle Kraken, recording 18 goals and 33 assists for 51 points in 182 games since 2016-17.
