The NHL today has released the 2013-2014 schedule and each team has a number of games that are going to be must see spectacles. With the Red Wings moving to the Eastern Conference for this season, there...

Richard Cloutier: Are the Oilers the New Red Wings?

There was a time when the Detroit Red Wings were the joke of the NHL. They turned it around, and eventually, they became the league's most healthy and functional franchise. How did they do it? One of the challenges in turning it around was the difficulty they had in acquiring name-brand players. Hey, when Daniel Alfredsson says, "I want a trade" or "I want to...

Red Wings overnight report: more prospect profiles and an abundance of ‘Wingspan’

The Detroit Red Wings' summer development camp's ended, but prospect profiles continue to roll out (which ain't a bad thing). The Left Wing Lock's Sarah Lindneau penned an article discussing one of the Wings' top prospects in one Ryan Sproul, who's more than ready to turn pro after an absolutely dominant season with the Ontario Hockey League's Soo Greyounds...

Red Wings non-schedule-related news: on Olympians, Fedorov’s bluster and top prospects

Amongst this afternoon's Red Wings-related stories: So the IIHF posited a press release and Olympic schedule after reaching an agreement with the NHL, NHLPA and IOC regarding NHL player participation in the 2014 Olympics, which will take place in Sochi, Russia. Given that Tomas Tatar, Tomas Jurco (Slovakia), Jonathan Ericsson  (a probable but not "lock" candidate...

Red Wings overnight report: on the schedule, City of Detroit bankruptcy crap, etc.

The NHL's annual "schedule release day" is obviously designed to spur season-ticket sales and yield a middle-of-the-summer PR boost for the league and its respective teams, and for the Red Wings and their fans, the new schedule certainly serves as the most visceral reminder that the team is now an Eastern Conference one (though I'm a little puzzled as to how a division...

Sergei Fedorov tried to lure Pavel Datsyuk to Russia before he signed Red Wings extension

In the end, the Detroit Red Wings and the NHL won out. But Pavel Datsyuk certainly had other options before signing his three-year, $22.5 million contract extension last month, and passed on overtures from a former teammate and the CSKA Moscow team he previously played for in Russia. Sergei Fedorov, who played with Datsyuk in Detroit for three years, is now the general manager...

Report: Sergei Fedorov tried to lure Pavel Datsyuk to Russia

Detroit Red Wings fans breathed a sigh of relief earlier this off-season when Pavel Datsyuk signed a 3-year extension to stay in Detroit. But had he left for his native Russia at the end of his contract next year, it could have been Sergei Fedorov’s gain. Federov, the ex-Red Wings star who’s now the general manager of the KHL’s CSKA Moscow, told a news outlet in Russia that...

Red Wings overnight report: Beer at the Big House, Mrazek and OHL assessments

I lived near Michigan Stadium for six years, and I can tell you for a fact that its status as a "dry" facility has never taken away from the ability of its spectators to enjoy games while feeling a little "merry" (and I can tell you for a fact that the former frat boys in their 40's act dumber than the 19-year-olds on their sixth or seventh buzz of a fooball...

Sergei Fedorov: CSKA Moscow ‘Had the Chance’ to Sign Pavel Datsyuk

Pavel Datsyuk could have bolted from the NHL to the KHL after this coming season, and done so in far less dramatic fashion than Ilya Kovalchuk ditched the Devils. The Detroit Red Wings’ star had just one year remaining on his NHL contract prior to signing a three-year extension, which will carry Datsyuk through the 2016-17 season. Former Red Wing Sergei Fedorov, currently the general...
