DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings let one two-goal lead slip away on Friday night at Joe Louis Arena, but they held on to a second two-goal advantage. The Wings' forwards provided all the offense, getting a pair of goals from Todd Bertuzzi and one each from Damien Brunner, Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, as they skated past the Minnesota Wild, 5-3. Detroit's forwards had combined to score just two goals through the first three games. Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard made 23 saves for the win. The Wild (2-2-0) got two goals from Zach Parise and one from Tom Gilbert, while goalie Josh Harding made 22 saves. Two of the Wings' goals came on the power play, off of five chances. They hadn't scored with the man advantage through the first three games of the season, going 0-for-15. Coincidently, the Wings didn't light the lamp on the power play through three games last season. In their fourth game last season, they did, which was against the Wild then as we...

Detroit Red Wings Backup Goaltender Thomas McCollum’s Mask Features Chris Farley (Photo)

Detroit Red Wings backup goaltender Thomas McCollum may not see a lot of ice time behind Jimmy Howard this season, but if playing time was dictated by the greatest hockey masks, then he would be starting every game. McCollum who was just called up from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday, wears a mask that features the late Chris Farley wearing a Red Wings jersey with...

Bertuzzi kisses Datsyuk after scoring goal

This pass from Pavel Datsyuk on Friday Night against the Minnesota Wild was simply incredible.  A saucer pass over two sticks right on to Todd Bertuzzi’s stick?  Absolutely fantastic.  Bertuzzi was obviously very happy that Datsyuk made such a great pass.  It was Bertuzzi’s first game of the season, and after scoring his second goal of the game, he planted a kiss right on...

Via RedWingsFeed, if you happen to have your evening free, the Detroit News's Lauren Abdel-Razzaq recommends that Wings fans might want to head out to the Troy Sports Center to catch the Red Wings Alumni team lending a hand to the Salvation Army's Bed and Bread program tonight at 7 PM: Detroit Red Wings Alumni and members of three youth hockey leagues will take to the...

Wild search for first road win against Detroit

Less than a week into the season, the Detroit Red Wings have already felt the effects from the retirements of two of the franchise's most successful players. Thin on defensemen and scoreless on the power play, the Red Wings look to bounce back from their latest defeat by trying to continue their home success against the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. Tomas Holmstrom played...

Wild vs Red Wings Recap: 1.25.2013

This is the type of performance a lot of us expected from the Red Wings when the season started. Good offense, shaky defense, and timely stops by Howard. Early in the first I really thought this was going to be a blowout. Detroit went an entire 1:30 of a 5 on 3 without a shot. Meanwhile, the Wild were playing solid puck possession hockey and peppering Howard with shots. Howard...

Red Wings Saturday practice post in progress: resting bumps and bruises

Red Bird III is scheduled to take off at 3:12 PM today to ferry the Red Wings to Chicago, where they'll meet the Blackhawks on Sunday evening (7 PM on FSD and AM 1270). The Wings will have a wee bit of an advantage in terms of rest as the Blackhawks are playing in Columbus tonight, but the Hawks are also 4-and-0 going into their Saturday night tilt. Thus far, it appears that...

Bertuzzi scores 2 in Red Wings' win over Wild

DETROIT (AP) -- Henrik Zetterberg snapped a tie midway through the second period, and Todd Bertuzzi scored his second goal of the game early in the third to lift the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday night. Pavel Datsyuk, who assisted on Zetterberg's goal, put Detroit ahead by two late in the second period. Datsyuk also set up Bertuzzi on his second...

Todd Bertuzzi Lights the Lamp Twice as Detroit Red Wings Down Minnesota Wild: Video

The banged-up Detroit Red Wings received the help of some reinforcements on Friday night, as Todd Bertuzzi, Darren Helm and Jakub Kindl all made their 2013 regular-season debuts. And Bertuzzi wasted no time making an impact, popping home two goals in Detroit’s 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild. Bertuzzi’s first goal of the night came just 55 seconds into the second period — and...

Will Kindl Hear The Wake-Up Call?

from Chuck Pleiness of Red Wings Front, Kindl will be paired on the second power play unit with Brendan Smith. For Kindl it may be his last chance to make this team has a regular. “That’s another good thing about injures, other people get opportunities,” Babcock said. “If you grab hold of it you get to play a long, long time. Everybody comes in has nobody and...

Red Wings-Wild quick take: it wasn’t pretty, but it was good

The Detroit Red Wings played like two different teams--or was it three or four?--en route to a slightly sloppy but particularly satisfying 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday. I'll write more about the game I described as, "Dating a fat girl who 'tries harder'" on Twitter in a minute, but I'd like to hear what you thought about what may or may not...

GDT - Game 4:  Red Wings (1-2) host Wild (2-1)  7:30

Detroyet fans fear not, your Coach said:  "We're a team in flux right now. But, we're going to be better. We'll be just fine.''  Shockingly, the reasons for Babock's optimism escape me.   The Wings cannot score, 1.33 G/G (28) and cannot keep the puck out of their net 3.67 GA/G (26).  Special teams are a freaking disaster.  0-15 on the PP, which...

Red Wings-Wild wrap-up and overnight report: Wings slowly finding their footing?

If you only watched the Minnesota Wild out-shoot the Red Wings 11-6 in the first period of what turned out to be an ugly but livable-withable 5-3 Red Wings victory, or watched the Wings take two of their eight(!) penalties within the first ten minutes of said first period, you would have been forgiven for assuming that the Wings were on their way to yet another predictable 2013 season...
