Found January 19, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
The Detroit Red Wings begin their 2013 season against the St. Louis Blues tonight (8 PM EST, FSD w/ a 1-hour preview starting at 7/97.1 FM, and ohyeahbytheway, Center Ice is holding a free preview until the end of January), and as we a) won't know the final shape of the Wings' or Blues' rosters for tonight's game until the morning skate at about noon ET today (okay, we know the Wings' lines and we know that Jimmy Howard will face Jaroslav Halak in the nets), and b) the Friday evening post sort of serves as a Wings-Blues preview in itself... I'd like to restate the, "Sometimes it's better to not give f*** about what other people think" theory with a little more poise this time. Ken Holland lowers expectations on Red Wings

The Red Wings suffered a huge blow with the retirement of Nicklas Lidstrom. Many fans of the Red Wings can't remember a time where he wasn't dominating their blue line, and now this season they'll be looking at Carlo Colaiacovo back there. Tomas Holmstrom is retiring officially on Tuesday, and while they will be captained by the always excellent Henrik Zetterberg and...

Red Wings skate into a new era without Lidstrom

The Detroit Red Wings have played in the last 21 Stanley Cup playoffs. That postseason streak might be in jeopardy. The storied franchise is starting a season without seven-time Norris Trophy winner Nicklas Lidstrom for the first time since the 1990-91, the year its run in the playoffs began. Lidstrom retired last summer and the 42-year-old defenseman turned down an offer from...

At least the Grand Rapids Griffins had some fight in ‘em

The Detroit Red Wings had a rough outing on Saturday night, dropping a 6-0 loss to St. Louis, but the team's AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, defeated the Rockford IceHogs 11-6...And if you look at the box score, they had an "interesting" evening. Via the Left Wing Lock's Sarah Lindenau, here's a video of a bench-clearing brawl at the 11:58 mark of...

Mike Knuble to Sign Tryout Deal With Grand Rapids Griffins After Failing to Make Detroit Red Wings’ Roster

Despite a spate of injuries that could leave the Detroit Red Wings down a couple of key forwards when the season opens, veteran Mike Knuble could not claim a roster spot. Instead, Knuble will head to the AHL. Knuble will sign PTO with Grand Rapids, trying to catch onto NHL team. — Ansar Khan (@AnsarKhanMLive) January 18, 2013 A “PTO”, as mentioned by MLive’s Ansar Khan there...

Todd Bertuzzi Out ‘Several Weeks’ With Mono; Jan Mursak to Play Against St. Louis

Some bad news for the Detroit Red Wings on opening night: forward Todd Bertuzzi, who was thought to have the flu, will instead miss “several weeks” with mono, Mike Babcock told reporters on Saturday. Considering the shortened schedule and a typical recovery time from mono, Bertuzzi may not make his 2013 debut until the final stretch of the regular season in late March or early...

Patrick Eaves cleared for return, Helm and Bertuzzi to miss season opener

According to the Detroit News, 28-year-old Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves has been cleared to return to the ice after missing the past year. Eaves, who hasn’t played since November of 2011 due to a broken jaw and concussion when a shot hit him in the face should be on the Wings’ roster Saturday night when they travel to St. Louis to take on the Blues. The Wings however will...

Hang on, fellow Red Wings fans, we’re groin to be fine…

Oh joy, here the groins come again. The Red Wings will start the season without Jakub Kindl (groin), Darren Helm (back) and most certainly Joey MacDonald (back), and Mikael Samuelsson has just recovered from a groin injury. As it turns out, groin injuries are apparently contagious, though Todd Bertuzzi apparently only skipped the latter half Jam the Joe practice with a sore groin...

Welcome aboard Red Bird III

I think the Griffins are just showing off now! After posting a wonderful video chronicling Landon Ferraro's participation in the Red vs. White game, the Grand Rapids Griffins take us aboard Red Bird III:   Update: While we're at videos chronicling the next generation of Red Wings, Fox Sports Detroit's Dana Wakiji and Art Regner interviewed director...

‘Rusty’ Red Wings?

from Drew Sharp of the Detroit Free Press, One game certainly isn't cause for pressing the panic button. A certain amount of sloppiness and lack of cohesion was expected. But considering that all of the Wings' concerns this season revealed themselves within the first two periods of the first game suggests that general manager Ken Holland perhaps can't afford to be...

Red Wings-Blues Preview

Prior to the past couple seasons, the Detroit Red Wings have heard every possible explanation for why their long-running playoff streak could finally end. Adding another year to an aging core and subtracting one of the greatest defensemen in NHL history heading into a lockout-shortened sprint of a season make this one no exception. Detroit begins its quest for a 22nd straight playoff...

The Red Wings Indoctrination: That Time I Decided to Make My Significant Other a Series Subject

Editors Note: This is a series that will run throughout the Red Wings season as Andrew attempts the treacherous journey of teaching his significant other about hockey, the NHL, the Detroit Red Wings and why the shootout is stupid. Check back regularly for updates on the process and anecdotes about how no matter what happens, Patrick Roy was never as good as Chris Osgood.  That whole...

Blown Out: Detroit - 0 St. Louis - 6

The season opener is in the books and the Red Wings played like trash. The Blues came to play and the Red Wings were completely unprepared. Sad.     The defense was a big letdown. Quincey in particular had a bad night. Blues rookie Vladimir Tarasenko humiliated him over and over again. It’s not all on Quincey, though. Not by a long shot...

How to Beat the Goalie: Halak

According to Andy Strickland, the St. Louis Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock will give Jaroslav Halak the nod in Monday's game against the Predators. The "How to Beat the Goalie" posts continue breaking down the St. Louis starter. The St. Louis Blues have a goaltending problem, however it is a good problem, opposed to the problem the Vancouver Canucks have with...

Blues-Predators Preview

Perhaps no team turned in as dominant an opener as the St. Louis Blues did. The Nashville Predators certainly did not measure up to that standard. These Central Division rivals made far different first impressions as they get set for Monday night's matchup in Nashville. St. Louis outshot Detroit 36-14 in a 6-0 home victory Saturday. T.J. Oshie had a goal and two assists and...
