Detroit Red Wings center Riley Sheahan made his NHL debut on Saturday afternoon against the Chicago Blackhawks and promptly took a four-minute high-sticking penalty on his first shift.
Sheahan's stick went to the face of rookie right wing Jimmy Hayes. Although Hayes wasn't bleeding, he did suffer broken teeth in the exchange.
Chicago was unable to score with the pronounced power play.
The 21st overall pick of the 2010 draft, Sheahan finished his third year at Notre Dame.

Why I’m not worried about the Detroit Red Wings
It wasn’t long ago that the Detroit Red Wings had lost six straight games and looked like a confused, beaten team. The Wings have looked better since then, but have still showed signs of shakiness that was not present during the team’s 23-game home winning streak.
I’m here to tell you to throw all that out the window.
Now, it’s playoff time, a time where the Detroit Red...

Lidstrom On A Different Level
from Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press, You will never figure him out.
Everybody around the Red Wings says that about Nicklas Lidstrom. Tell them you want to get inside the mind of Lidstrom—to understand his genius, to see what he sees. They laugh or shake their heads.
“It’s impossible to know how he can think that good,” coach Mike Babcock said.
Impossible?...
Red Wings Recap: 4.7.2012
Detroit played well enough to win this game, but they didn't get the breaks they needed to pull it off. The defense is playing fine, Howard is playing well and the forwards are getting good chances, but they just won't go in the frigging net. This has been going on for about two months now. Detroit claimed the 5th spot and will play Nashville. Not the best outcome, but I...
Red Wings lock up 5th seed in loss
Patrick Kane scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday in the final game of the regular season for both teams.
Despite the loss, the Red Wings clinched the fifth seed in the Western Conference and Blackhawks finish as the sixth seed.
Viktor Stalberg and Andrew Shaw scored for Chicago. Patrick Sharp had two...

Patrick Kane and Pavel Datsyuk trade sick shootout moves
The regular season finale between the Blackhawks and Red Wings went to a shootout last night, allowing two of the NHL's best danglers to showcase their stuff one last time before the playoffs. The Wings' Pavel Datsyuk pulled out a sick through-the-legs deke but missed on the shot...

Last night the New Jersey Devils did something they have not been able to do in a very, very long time: beat the Detroit Red Wings in Detroit. Here are some notes on last night's game.
- First off, congratulations to Pete DeBoer on coaching a team in New Jersey that not only reached the playoffs in his first year behind the bench, but hit the 100-point plateau. It's very...
