It wasn’t pretty, but the Detroit Red Wings beat the Columbus Blue Jackets in a shootout on Monday night.  In his second career NHL game, the Swiss Sensation Damien Brunner was chosen to go in the shootout and he did not disappoint.  Brunner channeled his inner Pavel Datsyuk and pulled off this Datyukian deke to give the Wings their first two points of the year.  I’ve been looking forward to seeing Damien Brunner ever since the Wings signed him, and so far he has not disappointed.  He hasn’t buried in regulation yet, but he’s had a lot of chances and has a great ability to make plays with the puck.[Video via: Puck Daddy Blog]

Question of the Week: If Red Wings Struggle, Should Ken Holland’s Job be on the Line?

The Detroit Red Wings got their 2013 season off to the roughest start possible on Saturday, losing 6-0 to the St. Louis Blues while only firing 14 shots on goal. It was the most frustrating season opener recently for the Red Wings, who for the first time in recent memory, might finally appear headed for their version of hockey’s rebuilding stage. This has been helped along especially...

Detroit Red Wings’ Niklas Kronwall the Center of Attention in Lidstrom’s Absence

With the perfect human, Nicklas Lidstrom, finally hanging up his skates, it’s time for the Detroit Red Wings’s Niklas Kronwall to show they will not miss him. To be honest, I thought Lidstrom would come back for a farewell season, but that is not the case. No spotlight will be brighter than the one shining on Niklas Kronwall now as the Wings head into a shortened season. He...

Incredibly late Red Wings-Blues wrap-up, take 2

This is incredibly late, but I worked very hard to get it done and was stopped by a 12-hour power outage, so here's a very, very late Wings-Blues wrap-up: Jan Mursak had to bow out of the Detroit Red Wings' first game of the 2013 season early. He was hard by Blues captain David Backes at the Wings' bench, and the tip of his right shoulder ended up taking the brunt of...
