The Detroit Red Wings are preparing to face off against the Anaheim Ducks tonight (7:30 PM, FSD/Prime Ticket/and as noted by @eyesris on Twitter, the NHL Network will no longer cover tonight's game, so yay, no Center Ice/GameCenter Live blackout!/97.1 FM) , and the Macomb Daily's Chuck Pleiness reports that the Wings are doing so under some noticeably watchful eyes (who will be signing autographs from 12-1:30 PM at 97.1 FM's SportsFest tomorrow in Novi):
Lidstrom and Holmstrom on bench watching practice.

No Franzen, Bertuzzi or Helm skating at optional practice.

So no gnus is no gnus on the injury front, as we were told to expect yesterday... Continue reading "Red Wings-Ducks game-day updates: thus far, the only news of note involves no NHL Net blackout"

Todd Bertuzzi may be done for the season, or more seeing as how he is 38.
The Detroit Free Press reported earlier tonight that Bertuzzi had been admitted to the hospital with extreme back pain.
Bertuzzi has missed Detroit’s last three games with his chronically-injured back and, following a 5-3 win over St. Louis last Thursday, “could barely walk” according to the Detroit...
DETROIT The hits just keep on coming for the Detroit Red Wings only in a bad way.
To this point, the Wings have been able to survive an early rash of injuries because top players Henrik Zetterberg, Pavel Datsyuk and Niklas Kronwall remained healthy.
But Friday night, Datsyuk was out of the lineup due to a yet undisclosed injury. When the team came out for warm-ups before the...
Gustav Nyquist is up from Grand Rapids for the Detroit Red Wings’ Friday night game against Anaheim. The reason? Well, as Chuck Pleiness reported, another Red Wings forward has suffered an injury.
Which forward? Good question.
According to Pleiness, Wings GM Ken Holland simply revealed that a forward is hurt — but would not reveal which one, leaving the mystery until Friday’s...
DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Red Wings have put forward Johan Franzen on injured reserve. They also removed goaltender Jonas Gustavsson from IR and assigned him to Grand Rapids of the AHL on a conditioning loan. Franzen has missed Detroit's last two games with a hip injury. Gustavsson was signed by the Red Wings in July and has appeared in one game for them this season....
Ass barns. Now we know why the Red Wings recalled Gustav Nyquist, and the Wings did so because one of their most important players is "banged-up":
Pavel Datsyuk out for Wings tonight. Team says it's a day-to-day injury, not specified.

Not good, not good. MLive's Ansar Khan wasn't able to get Red Wings GM Ken Holland name of the player who won't be able to play tonight against the Anaheim Ducks (it's on at 7:30 PM on FSD and Prime Ticket, but all of a sudden, there's confusion as to whether it will air on the NHL Network or not, so we don't know if it's gonna be blacked out for GCL and...
Certainly not the third period we were looking for. The effort was there most of the night, but turnovers were the Red Wings’ undoing in this game. The Ducks scored 4 of their 5 goals off of turnovers. Yes, injuries are a problem, but our key injuries are to forwards and the problem was on defense. Howard did what he could, but there were too many turnovers to overcome.
DETROIT You can call them the Red Wings of the future or the Grand Rapids Griffins call-ups, but it might be time for the Wings to call on them even more.
After the Wings dropped a 4-3, overtime decision to the St. Louis Blues Wednesday night, coach Mike Babcock said that he probably should have played some of the third- and fourth-line guys more.
Two of those guys, Tomas Tatar...
The Detroit Red Wings are back on the ice at Joe Louis Arena, hoping to rebound from a 4-3 OT loss to St. Louis despite facing a very, very tough task on Friday in battling the 9-2-and-1 Anaheim Ducks, who haven't played since defeating the Blackhawks 3-2 in a shootout on Tuesday. I'm going to be out of the office from about 12:30-2, so if there's big breaking injury...
from Ken Baker of NHL.com,
KEN BAKER: You aren't a big goalie, but you look big in the net. What's your secret?
VIKTOR FASTH: I try to cut off the angle a little different than the taller goalies (Fasth is 6-foot, 186 pounds). And I try to play with big patience. If I go down on my knees too early, I will be opening up some holes top-shelf. So I have to play more...
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Nashville Predators made Anaheim goaltender Viktor Fasth work hard to continue the perfect start to his NHL career.
Nick Bonino and Corey Perry scored in the shootout and the Ducks beat the Predators 3-2 on Saturday night to earn their fourth straight victory and eighth in their last nine games.
In the tiebreaker, Fasth allowed just one of three Nashville...
Another game, another win. These are the days of the Anaheim Ducks lives. This time is was Andrew Cogliano delivering the knockout punch to the jaw of another Central Division foe.
The Detroit Red Wings and Ducks were tied 2-2 at the end of two periods when Anaheim's offense kicked into high gear. Cogliano snapped the tie just over a minute into the third and Bobby Ryan tallied...
DUCKS (9-2-1) at RED WINGS (7-4-2)
TV: PRIME, FS-Detroit
Last 10: Anaheim 7-2-1; Detroit 6-2-2
The Anaheim Ducks head to Detroit to face the Red Wings for the first time since the retirement of Niklas Lidstrom and for the first time with Viktor Fasth in net.
After losing three of the four meetings last season, a confident Anaheim team is looking forward to continuing...
The Nashville Predators take on the Anaheim Ducks for the second time this season, this time at Bridgestone Arena. Nashville and Anaheim are both on win streaks, but one of these teams will have to lose. The Predators are 7-3-4 with 18 points and ranked 4th in the Western Conference, while the Ducks are 10-2-1 with 21 points and ranked 2nd in the Western Conference. Puck drops at...

The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Nashville Predators, 3-2 in a shootout for the second time in as many meetings. Ducks’ goaltender Viktor Fasth came up big in the shootout, stopping two of three attempts. Fasth also turned away 32 shots that came his way. Also, the Ducks ended their road trip on a high note, going 5-1-0. “It’s...
