This has been Petr Mrazek’s first year as a professional after playing three seasons in the OHL. He started off the season with the Toledo Walleye in the ECHL and then moved to the AHL to play for the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Detroit Red Wings minor league affiliate. On Thursday night, the Red Wings 5th round pick from 2010, will make his first career NHL start. With his debut tonight, we will get to see his fantastic Superman Peter Griffin mask in action. This is easily one of the more creative masks that I have ever seen, especially in Detroit where fans are used to seeing Chris Osgood and Dominik Hasek, who didn’t even wear normal goalie masks. It’s unclear what the reasoning behind giving Mrazek the start over Jimmy Howard is, but Red Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock has confidence in him.“(Mrazek) just wins. Nothing seems to faze him…he just wins.” -Mike Babcock— Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) February 7, 2013Mrazek’s stats show you that he has played well at every level, and he was also named the best goalie of the World Junior Under 20 Championships in 2011. It appears that the Red Wings have managed to find themselves another late round gem, who also happens to have one of the best goalie masks in the NHL.[Thescore.com] [daveart.com]

Earlier in this young NHL season, pictures of the facemask of then-backup Red Wings goalie Thomas McCollum made their internet debut. McCollum has a liking of the late Chris Farley’s character Tommy Boy. Apparently the sense of humor is a trend among Wings backup netminders as the current Jimmy Howard backup, Petr Mrazek, has a different funny guy on his mask. The 20-year old...

Petr Mrazek should start in net for the Detroit Red Wings when they take on the St. Louis Blues tonight. I don't know an awful lot about the young netminder, but I do know this one fact. It should be him and not Howard to take on the central division rivals in action this evening.
The reasons for this are few and simple.
ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Petr Mrazek made 26 saves in his NHL debut, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.
Detroit halted a two-game skid with its second win in three tries against St. Louis this season.
The Blues, who beat Detroit 6-0 on Jan. 19, dropped their third in a row. They have lost three successive games in regulation for...
Detroit Red Wings coach Mike Babcock tossed Petr Mrazek into a tough spot, asking the rookie netminder to make his NHL debut on the road against the St. Louis Blues. Mrazek responded, delivering 26 saves in a convincing 5-1 victory.
After the final horn sounded, Mrazek felt the love from his teammates — including No. 1 goalie Jimmy Howard.

All of a sudden that 6-0 opening season loss to the Blues seems like a long time ago.
Thursday night the Wings defeated St. Louis 5-1 behind an impressive performance by rookie goaltender Petr Mrazek and the third and fourth lines.
Mrazak who made his first career NHL start for a resting Jimmy Howard turned away 26 shots in the win while looking extremely confident between the pipes...
Red Wings interim back-up goalie and top prospect Petr Mrazek's received as much attention for the image of Family Guy's Peter Griffin on his goalie mask, which is a creation of something of a legend in the mask-painting industry in David Gunnarson, but MLive's Ansar Khan and the Detroit News's Ted Kulfan found out that just because Petr Mrazek may indeed be a "...

The Wings just caved in the collective faces of the Blues for the second consecutive time since the opening night fiasco (that's my punk band name for the week... nailed it) and I should be pretty stoked about the final score of 5-1. Petr Mrazek played very well, but there is one moment that stands out to me from this game.
