Found April 08, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
Amongst this morning/early afternoon's Red Wings-related news: The Wings had recalled Riley Sheahan on an "emergency" basis as the team feared that Henrik Zetterberg (groin) might not be able to play during Sunday's 1-0 loss to St. Louis, so the press release the Wings sent out to their email list on Monday offered no surprise: RED WINGS REASSIGN RILEY SHEAHAN TO GRAND RAPIDS Detroit, MI... The Detroit Red Wings today announced that forward Riley Sheahan has been reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Sheahan appeared in yesterday’s contest vs. St. Louis, logging 6:47 in ice time.  The game marked Sheahan’s second NHL contest and first this season. Sheahan is currently in his first full season with Grand Rapids.  The 6-2, 212-lb. center has collected 35 points (16-19-35) and 31 PIM in 67 games this season.  He is currently tied for third on the Griffins with six power-play goals and ranks second with two shorthanded ta...

Red Wings recall Sheahan, who had an infamous DUI

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Riley Sheahan from their American Hockey League affiliate. The move was made Saturday, a day before Detroit hosts the St. Louis Blues. Detroit drafted Sheahan in the first round of the 2010 NHL draft and he played in one game for the Red Wings last year. He had 35 points in 67 games this season for the Grand Rapids Griffins. Sheahan pleaded...

Leafs to face Red Wings in 2014 Winter Classic, Jerseys Unveiled

After the 2012-13 NHL lockout shortened the season and cancelled the Leafs vs. Red Wings Winter Classic, today, the NHL announced that the two teams will meet in the 2014 Winter Classic. They also unveiled the jersey's which, like any other Winter Classic Jerseys in the past, look pretty sick. The Leafs and Red Wings will face each other four times next year as division rivals...

Rapping Red Wings: Detroit Must Get Intense, Play Tougher to Retain Their Playoff Streak

A quick check of the schedule and standings should tell fans of the Detroit Red Wings everything they need to know about the last few weeks of the shortened regular season, but is the team paying attention? Detroit currently holds eighth place. They’re three points clear of the Phoenix Coyotes and four points clear of the Dallas Stars, a team which essentially gave up the season...

Detroit Red Wings: Winged-wheeling and (Not) Dealing

By Rhys Richards (@RREsq) Paul Sancya Another Trade Deadline has come and gone. While the Detroit Red Wings moved their first round pick for defenseman Kyle Quincey last season, the past several seasons have been relatively quiet for the organization. This season, Detroit made no deals before the 3 pm deadline on Wednesday, though the team did sign highly sought after college defenseman...

From the Red Wings' PR department: RED WINGS TO HOST FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT GLEANERS COMMUNITY FOOD BANK ON THURSDAY … Fans who Donate Could Win an Autographed Jimmy Howard Puck and Photo … Detroit, MI… The Detroit Red Wings will host a canned food drive to assist in the fight against hunger with Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. The Wings’ Saturday evening email = Winter Classic announcement/presser at 10:30 AM Sunday

I've already received some Tweets and will certainly receive some emails regarding the mysterious email the Red Wings sent their fans on Saturday night, stating that they will make an "announcement" at 10:30 AM EDT today (and that the announcement will be streamed on and re-shown in snippets during today's matinee between the Wings and Blues...

HBO 24/7 - Leafs/Wings

from Bruce Dowbiggin at the Globe and Mail, It was widely agreed (okay, we suggested it) that the Red Wings would be the only attraction for HBO’s cameras in the four-part run-up to the game. Detroit in the postseason every year for two decades. Pavel Datsyuk. Henrik Zetterberg. Mike Babcock. Gordie Howe. The octopus. Toronto? They haven’t lifted the Stanley Cup since...

Why Am I Up So Late?

It's called scoreboard watching or in my case, actually watching the games. Many of you know I am a Red Wings fan but don't touch on it much in the KK Hockey section since that area is for all things hockey. But I am experiencing something quite different than in years past and that is being worried about the Wings making the playoffs. To make this short, I am now in...

Red Wings-Blues quick take: a joke all the way around

I would yell and scream at the Red Wings for engaging in awfully stupid lateral passing up the ass, shooting an unbelievable number of single, un-screened shots on Brian Elliott (who had a ridiculously easy night thanks to no butts in front, no screens and no rebound attempts from the Wings, never mind sustained pressure by the Wings) and essentially playing like they didn't...

Red Wings Lose Out On Crucial 2 points, 1-0

The Red Wings drop yet another crucial game 1-0 to the St. Louis Blues, who drop them to 8th in the West. This playoff-intensity game was a defensive battle from the get-go, though not as boring as some we’ve seen this season. Both teams grinded away at one another, clearing pucks away from [...]

Red Wings overnight report: Margin for error? We don’t need no stinkin’ margin for error!

I'm sticking with Fox Sports Detroit's Ken Daniels on this one. The reason I lost my temper after the Wings-Blues game, and the reasons that Wings fans have been so frustrated while watching their favorite team continue to consistently drop "must-win games" down the stretch, all boil down to 55. During an 82-game season, teams tend to earn playoff spots if they...

Red Wings-Blues set-up and overnight report: it’d be a ‘great story’ if the Wings win today

The Red Wings' game against the St. Louis Blues today (12:30 PM EDT, NBC Sports/NHL Network Canada/97.1 FM, and today the Wings are partnering with the Make-A-Wish Foundation at the Joe today) makes for "good TV" and "easy storytelling") for those without a rooting interest, for several reasons: After today's Winter Classic presser, a pair of teams...
