Found March 12, 2012 on Kukla's Korner:
The injury-depleted Detroit Red Wings have slipped to fourth place in the Western Conference thanks to dropping three of their past four games, and coming off a 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on Saturday night, the Wings doubly re-set their body clocks—losing one hour when first returning from Nashville’s Central Time Zone, losing another thanks to “spring forward,” and three more via a Sunday evening flight to Los Angeles which deposited the team in California—for a three-game road swing which starts with a rematch against last Friday’s opponent in the revenge-minded Los Angeles Kings—at what would be the equivalent of 12:27 AM EST. When the Wings’ players gather on the ice at the Kings’ practice facility later today, probably after Red Wings GM Ken Holland, who will spend Monday morning at the GM’s meetings, is on the golf course in Palm Beach, Gustav Nyquist will rejoin a cast of characters who haven’t even tried to skate since Friday in Todd Bertuzzi (groin), Pavel Datsyu...

Bertuzzi, Datsyuk, Lidstrom remain sidelined for Red Wings (and evening gnus)

Many thanks to Paul for the <a href="http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/tmr/comments/practice_update_from_la/'>updates. Back from the doc, mom checked out okay, had a few freckles removed by the doc but continues to remain skin cancer free. Anyway, from the Red Wings’ practice in Los Angeles, we’re finding out mediocre news on the injury front. MLive’sAnsar...

Red Wings’ Jimmy Howard will return on Tuesday; Nyquist sent down temporarily

Excellent Red Wings news from the Free Press’s Helene St. James: the Wings will at least have Jimmy Howard back between the pipes on Tuesday: Wings send Nyquist and Pearce back to Grand Rapids, good indication Howard and Bertuzzi will return Tuesday at LA ... Holland tells Free Press: Howard is ready to go Tuesday at LA, Nyquist will play tonight for GR, rejoin Wings Monday in...

Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi sits down with Sportsnet’s Christine Simpson

Two days after the eighth anniversary of the “Bertuzzzi-Moore” incident, Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi spoke to Sportsnet’s Christine Simpson in a sit-down interview, mostly talking about his renaissance and “reinvention” as a defensively-responsible forward with the team he hopes to win a Stanley Cup with in the Detroit Red Wings: Wings coach Mike Babcock adds some...

Brendan Smith leads Red Wings into playoff push

Some teams never overcome losing a franchise player to retirement. The Detroit Red Wings are near this reality as Nicklas Lidstrom is on the wrong side of 40 and in the final year of his contract with the team. Fans are hoping that Lidstrom, a 7-time Norris Trophy Winner and 2002 Conn Smythe Trophy winner, will still give one more year to lead the Red Wings into the Winter Classic...

Don’t expect the status to remain anything but quo at the GM’s meetings, says Wings’ Ken Holland

Red Wings GM Ken Holland spoke to MLive’s Ansar Khan before flying to the hockey hotbed of Boca Raton, Florida to attend the NHL’s general managers’ meetings at the economically-priced The Breakers Resort (Don Cherry booked all the hotels in Saskatoon), and while the talk of reintroducing the red line, getting rid of the “trapezoid,” introducing “hybrid icing” and otherwise...

Do the Detroit Red Wings need a strong power play to win Central Division?

The Detroit Red Wings are 2-3 in their last five and 0-20 on the power play in that span. Additionally, the Wings have fallen back behind the St. Louis Blues during a 3-5-1 stretch. Detroit is currently 20th on the power play with 16.2 percent. It’s obviously not where coach Mike Babcock would like to be with the special teams, but he has just weeks to adjust before...

Cleary Battling Through Injury

Dan Cleary had his knee drained for the fourth time yesterday. The dude has issues.  I think someone recently noted how...not like himself Dan has been looking lately.  It's because he's basically been playing on one leg.  Where high profile guys like Lidstrom and Datsyuk are shelved due to injury - it's the depth guys that are asked to step up in the face of adversity...

Red Wings-Kings set-up: a quietly crucial game

The Detroit Red Wings remain without the services of Pavel Datsyuk, Jonathan Ericsson, Jakub Kindl and Nicklas Lidstrom, and probably Todd Bertuzzi, as they face off against the Los Angeles Kings tonight (10:30 PM EDT, FSD/Fox Sports West/97.1 FM—and if you’re in LA, the Wings are holding a meet-up at Los Angeles’s Coney Dog restaurant), and they’re heading into a stretch...

GDT - Game #70:  Red Wings at Kings (10:30)

DET (44-22-3) begin their last road trip of the season tonight at LAK (32-25-12).  The Wings 4-5-1 record in their past 10 tilts, combined with STL going 9-1-0 in that span, has given the Blues a commanding 6 point lead in the Central.  Unless the NHL leading Blues implode, the Wings have virtually no chance of catching them.  And unless the Wings start winning, they will almost...

Red Wings-Predators quick take: lurking in the weeds doesn’t work two nights in a row

The Detroit Red Wings seemed to be far too content to try to use the same lurking-in-the-weeds game plan against the Nashville Predators which they successfully employed against the Kings on Friday, and in a four-point game against a team far superior to the floundering Kings, the Wings made a huge tactical error, and thanks to some terrible special teams play on Detroit’s part—giving...

One more thing: Win over Wings features playoff-like setting

Last night’s hard-fought contest between the Red Wings and Predators – seeded fourth and fifth in the West, respectively – could have been a playoff preview. If you were not aware that is was March instead of April, however, you may have mistaken it for being a playoff game.As usual, there were plenty of Red Wings fans in attendance. But the atmosphere in a sold out Bridgestone...

Optional Skate 3.12.12

This new feature, Optional Skate, is something that we'll put up on non-game days when there just isn't anything worth mentioning. Use this thread to talk about whatever Red Wings-related topic you want to talk about. For example, talk about your favorite players from years past, rumors you may have heard or which Wing you want to have babies with. It's an open thread...
