Update: FSD’s Trevor Thompson reports that Tomas Holmstrom suffered a groin injury and won’t play tomorrow: The Detroit Red Wings began play against the Nashville Predators with a little lead in their legs from their Christmas break and a little “stupid” lingering in their play from their ineffectual, inefficient and mistake-prone hockey against Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary last week, but the Wings slowly but surely gained their footing and ended up routing the Predators at home, defeating Nashville 4-1 at a Bridgestone Arena where the Wings rarely win.

According to both Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean and Ryan Porth of Smashville 24/7, Nashville Predators captain Shea Weber left the ice during morning skate and never returned. With Kevin Klein also out (flu), the Predators have apparently recalled defenseman Ryan Ellis from the AHL affiliate Milwaukee Admirals.

Shea Weber, the leading scorer for the Nashville Predators, has a concussion and will miss Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Wild. A team spokesman says Tuesday that Weber will be evaluated daily, with no timetable for his return. Weber, a defenseman and the team captain, was hurt by a hit Friday night against Dallas.
