Found March 06, 2013 on Kukla's Korner:
Red Wings prospect Tomas Jurco absolutely dominated play during his final two years in the QMJHL, scoring highlight-reel goals with almost predictable regularity as he won a Memorial Cup and two QMJHL titles with the Saint John Sea Dogs, so the most frequent question I've received about Jurco's status this season is, "Whatever happened to Jurco?" The answer's simple: Jurco went from playing against 15-to-20-year-olds in the QMJHL to playing against men in the AHL, and as such, the YouTube magician has seemingly disappeared. He is in fact playing for the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins, and RedWingsCentral's Matthew Wuest reports that Griffins coach Jeff Blashill had no illusions regarding a very big fish in a somewhat shallow pond finding himself performing like anything less than a minnow in hockey's equivalent of the Great Lakes: Jurco, who was a teenaged rookie until he turned 20 on Dec. 28, has eight goals and eight assists for 16 points i...

Niklas Kronwall scores with assist from backboards (Video)

Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall scored a goal in Tuesday night's game against the Colorado Avalanche with an assist from the backboards at Joe Louis Arena. Kronwall deliberately sent his slapshot from near the blue line just wide of the Avalanche net, but the puck bounced hard off the backboards towards the goal crease, then off the foot of Avalanche goalie Jean...

Jordin Tootoo Fights Edmonton’s Mike Brown: Video

Jordin Tootoo has more or less held his own in numerous fights this season. He certainly did not get the best of Edmonton’s Mike Brown on Thursday night, though, when Brown and Tootoo mixed it up early in the second period of the Detroit Red Wings’ 3-0 win. Brown checked Tootoo as the Wings’ forward cleared the puck, then turned back and issued the fight challenge. Tootoo landed...

Kindl, Emmerton score in Wings shutout win

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have some excellent hockey players but they don't have a Steven Stamkos or a Sidney Crosby. You don't get those players when you don't have the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft, which the Wings haven't had because they've made the playoffs 21 straight seasons. Crosby and Stamkos currently lead the league in scoring....

Is Pavel Datsyuk Getting Enough Help? Answering Some Key Detroit Red Wings Questions

The Detroit Red Wings are in for another fight to the finish this season. They currently sit in the middle of the playoff race in the Western Conference, but just six points separate the third and 12th place teams. The 2013 NHL season has become very much like college football: Every single game has an impact on things. But for the Wings — and, in particular, coach Mike Babcock...

Finally….Datsyuk’s Found His Niche

Draper. Gilchrist. Dallas Drake and hell, how about Darryl LaPlante?  Checking forwards, or at least forwards we expected little offense out of, right? Now you can add Pavel Datsyuk to that list. Finally, after a decade, the Wings have finally figured out how to use this man.  It's been frustrating, hasn't it? We've watched him for years, constantly wondering..."...

Oh my…Petr Mrazek’s doing an “AMA” on Reddit?

Via RedWingsFeed, I'm sure this is going to be interesting...The Grand Rapids Griffins have chosen to allow Red Wings prospect Petr Mrazek to engage in an "Ask Me Anything" session on Reddit: Head over to @reddit to follow along with Petr Mrazek's AMA: reddit.com/r/hockey/comme… — GrandRapids Griffins (@griffinshockey) March 6, 2013

Howard, Red Wings top Avalanche 2-1

DETROIT (AP) -- Niklas Kronwall's shot from the blue line went wide, then caromed back off the boards just as goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere was extending his right leg. The puck bounced off Giguere's skate and into the net, giving the Detroit Red Wings a fluky but important goal. "I couldn't really find a lane through to the net, so I tried to get it somewhat close...

Kronwall In The Norris Hunt

Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun hand out their midseason awards and LeBrun picks Niklas Kronwall for the Norris Trophy. Kind of amazing when you have a list that doesn't include Shea Weber or Drew Doughty, but I think it's only a matter of time over the last half of the season that those guys will find their way into the conversation. Both players are playing much...

Red Wings-Avs quick take: it was tighter than it needed to be

Grr. The Detroit Red Wings' 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche was good to see--it was a relief, frankly, given that the Wings need to take as many of the 8 games they're playing over 2 weeks, and were off to an 0-and-1 start--it was great to see Johan Franzen score on a breakaway set up by Damien Brunner, awesome to see Niklas Kronwall rip a shot wide (gasp, with Abdelkader...

Red Wings-Oilers wrap-up: at the halfway point, Wings find grit, secondary scoring and defense

"What a difference a couple of days make" might be the theme of this abbreviated 48-games-in-99-nights season, and the Red Wings have certainly learned as much. After dropping 5 straight games, the Wings have won five of their past seven games, including a 2-1 win over Colorado on Tuesday and Thursday night's 2-0 win over Edmonton. With 24 games in the books, the...

Red Wings-Avalanche wrap-up and overnight report: it wasn’t pretty, but a win’s two crucial points

The Detroit Red Wings neither started nor finished particularly strongly during what was sometimes less than an aesthetically-pleasing 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche, but the Wings' company line after the game involved two points of emphasis: 1. They weren't thrilled with the fact that Jimmy Howard had to stop 36 shots, including 16 in the third period, nor were they...

Oilers-Red Wings Preview

A fortunate bounce helped the Detroit Red Wings extend a successful stretch, but they haven't needed too much luck in recent matchups with Edmonton. The Red Wings will try to continue their dominance over the slumping Oilers in Thursday night's finale of a three-game homestand. Detroit (11-8-4) is 4-1-1 since Feb. 23, and benefited from Niklas Kronwall's unusual goal...

GDT - Game 23: Red Wings (10-8-4) host Avalanche (8-8-4) 7:30

At the moment, DET are 10th in the Conference, but only 1 point out of playoff position; that's the good news.  There are a couple bits of bad news.  To date the Wings have played 4 more games at the JLA than on the road - - that means a road heavy schedule to wind-up the season.  DET are not very good on the road 3-4-2.  The other bit of bad news - - right now there are...

Red Wings-Oilers set-up and overnight report: Wings reach the halfway point with no breathing room

The Red Wings reach the halfway point of their 48-game 2013 season tonight when they host the Edmonton Oilers (7:30 PM, FSD/Sportsnet West/97.1 FM). For the Wings, game #24 on the schedule kicks off a slate of 3 games played over the course of 4 nights, and represents the last of a home-friendly first half schedule. The Wings, who sit in 6th place in the West with 26 points, play...
