According to an NHL source (via, the Red Wings are discussing a deal that would send forward Jordin Tootoo back to Nashville a city in which he spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career. Like his time in Nashville, Tootoo became a fan favorite in Detroit due to his abrasive play and willingness to drop the gloves with his opponents. However with the Wings suddenly needing some cap relief, Tootoo’s cap hit of $1.9 million over the next two season could certainly give the Wings some financial flexibility heading into next season. In addition to Tootoo, the FSD report also says that the Wings may be shopping Cory Emmerton and veteran forwards Todd Bertuzzi and Mikael Samuelsson. So what could the Wings be looking for in return? According to Darren Dreger of, the Red Wings are very interested 25-year old defenseman Cody Franson (6-5, 213 pounds) of the Toronto Maple Leafs which at this point seems like a distant possibility considering Toronto and Detr...

Red Wings overnight report: on Datsyuk, rink $, Ferraro’s ‘day with the Cup’ and promotional stuff

The Free Press's Helene St. James has been positing profiles of the Red Wings' key contributors going forward, and of the four players she's profiled--Justin Abdelkader, Todd Bertuzzi and Daniel Alfredsson, and today, Pavel Datsyuk--Datsyuk's arguably the most important player on the team not named Henrik Zetterberg, Jimmy Howard or Niklas Kronwall, and as such: ...

A story about a retired Detroit police officer once ‘protecting’ Ted Lindsay

KK reader Kathleen Wood wanted to share a story she'd once discussed with Puck Daddy regarding an incident involving birthday boy Ted Lindsay, who turns 88 today, and her father, a retired Detroit police officer: I don't think there are too many former police officers that spent time in the penalty box before this practice was quickly stopped: My Dad, George Gignac...

Red Wings overnight report: on courting rink controversy, DeKeyser and Kronwall’s charity game

Regardless of your opinion regarding the Red Wings' new rink and the funding surrounding it, there are at least facts available about the public and private portions of its construction costs, the rink proposal itself and who's in charge. If anything, the various websites on both sides of the political aisle are pissing me off (and again, I'm a moderate independent) because...
