American Mike Modano Calls it Quits After 21 NHL Seasons
For the first time in 22 years the NHL will start its regular season without Mike Modano in the lineup for one of its 30 teams. Modano, a star forward for the Minnesota/Dallas Stars franchise, decided to call it quits just after NHL training camps got underway. While Modano may not have been the most prolific scorer in history, he does leave the game as the highest-scoring American...

Tigers Leading ALDS, Lions and Wolverines 9-0: Pure Michigan
Bloomberg News reported that the success of Detroit sports would inject another $140 million into the economy. As the Detroit Red Wings get started, the motor city’s most famous and successful sports brand complements the Lions winning ways (4-0, one of just two undefeated teams left in the NFL), the Detroit Tigers winning the AL Central and leading the New York Yankees in the...
THE MIKE MODANO IMPACT
With the retirement of Mike Modano, so ends an amazing era in the Texas sports scene. Yet hockey has done nothing but grow in Cowboy Country and 18 years after the move, there’s even kids being drafted...

Asked if the game would have a big bearing on the final roster cuts, which are due by 3 p.m. Wednesday, coach Dan Bylsma said, "Probably not. We've had some discussions. A lot of it has...
Penguins close out preseason with 3-2 loss to Red Wings
DETROIT -- The Penguins closed out their preseason schedule with a 3-2 loss to the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Joe Louis Arena.
The Penguins went 5-1 in exhibition games, missing a chance to go 6-0 for the first time in club history.

If the preseason is about implementing systemic tweaks, trying out new line combinations, giving rookies and new additions time to acclimate, if not shine, and slowly but surely rounding into regular season form while attempting to avoid injuries, rounding out the exhibition season with a three-games-in-three-nights slate makes very little sense.
That is exactly what the Red Wings...
