The Detroit Red Wings have secured their next franchise defenseman, signing Niklas Kronwall to a seven-year contract extension worth $33.25 million.Kronwall was set to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end. He'll make $4.5 million next season, $6 million the following three years, $5.5 million the next season, $3.5 million in season six and $1.75 million in the final year.Kronwall also has a no-trade clause through the first five years of the deal and a partial clause over the final two seasons.The 30-year-old is expected to be one of the team's top defenseman, with veteran Nicklas Lidstrom expected to retire in the near future.Kronwall has one goal and one assist in nine games.
