Referee Kelly Sutherland left Wednesday's game between the Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers when he was hit in the face by a puck.
Sutherland was hurt just over 5 1/2 minutes into the first period when he was struck by a deflection off a slap shot from Buffalo's Jordan Leopold.
He appeared wobbly and had to be assisted off the ice after being treated by a trainer.

The Buffalo Sabres have demoted defenseman Brayden McNabb to AHL Rochester, where the rookie will have the benefit of getting more playing time after missing eight games with a concussion.
Coach Lindy Ruff announced the move Thursday, saying McNabb has been cleared to play.

Morning puck fans!
Well, that was rough last night. The 3-1 score, which featured an empty netter for Patrick Kaleta, is not quite indicative of the game.
With the Sabres getting 40 shots in the contest, it was never really that close.
Thank goodness Carey Price was not playing looking towards the glass or it could have been far worse.
