Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Steve Mason will miss Monday night's game against Calgary after he was hit in the head with a puck during the morning skate, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Mason was struck in the mask by a shot from forward Rick Nash, sending the goalie to the ice. After trainers ran out to Mason, he was able to skate off the ice under his own power, according to the report. Coach Scott Arniel said Mason would definitely be unavailable Monday night, though backup goalie Curtis Sanford had already been scheduled to make the start. The team's next game is at New Jersey on Wednesday night. Arniel said Mason, the 2009 Calder Trophy winner, got hit "pretty hard." The 23-year-old has a .875 save percentage this season for floundering Blue Jackets, who are an NHL worst 4-13-2 this season.
