We are gathered here today to mourn the Buffalo Sabres 2011-12 season, a season that saw them miss the playoffs and extend their streak to 42 years without a sip from Lord Stanley's mug. The rosters change, but things remain the same in BuffaLOL.Some may say the Sabres were taken from us too soon, but when you spend way too much money on average players, you get what you pay for.As the tears of the River Ruff wash yet another Cup-less season away from the city of Buffalo and Ryan Miller's skirt and pads are laid to rest for the season, we want to reflect back on the season that was for the Sabres and say a few words. The false hopes of delusional fans who thought this team could actually win a Cup are crushed. The streets of Buffalo are filled with screams of disappointment as fans recall Lucic running over Miller like a small frog in the road and saying their season ended that day. Do not be foolish Buffalo. Your season ended as soon as it started in October because your tea...

Nail In The Coffin: Buffalo Eliminated From Playoff Contention. Breaking It Down

What seemed to be inevitable to most fans finally happened last night: The Buffalo Sabres are officially not going to the 2012 NHL Playoffs. The Sabres had to win out and the Capitals needed to lose one more game for Buffalo to squeak into the eighth seed.  However, with a one goal lead in the third period, they just couldn’t hold on and lost 2-1 to the Flyers. Washington promptly...

Buffalo shuffles out of playoff race

The big budget Buffalo Sabres missed the playoffs this season. They gamely rallied – going 19-5-5 during their prolonged surge -- but they ultimately came up short in the season's final week. It’ll be fun to see how the organization responds moving forward. The Sabres have missed the playoffs three times in five seasons and six in the past 10. They have not won a playoff series...

GARTH: Respect The Game

Lindy Ruff met with media members before the pregame warm-up skate this afternoon in Boston. Ruff made a salient point that he told his team that he expects them all to play hard, focused hockey. Ruff underscored his comments by telling his players to respect this game. There are people in the Buffalo lineup who are looking to make an impression on Ruff and Regier. Yeah,...

I Think I Found The Worst Sabres Blogger. Ever.

DOY reader Garrett turned us on to this via his Facebook and it is too delicious to not pounce on. This "article" is like a gazelle dying in the pride lands and we're the lions who are going to put it out of it's misery and feed the innards to the rest of the pride. We're very motherly like that. So let's get into this meaty piece of ****:  aration for...

GARTH: Losing Sucks

Lindy Ruff addressed his team twice on Goodi Friday in Boston. Like EF Hutton, when Ruff spoke, his players and coaches listened. Ruff called his troops together for a chat before, and after, the high tempo, rigorous sixty minute skate. According to @kwsnow, the coach vented his spleen while laying his feelings on the line to his team. “Today’s not a good...

82. Buffalo Sabres at Boston Bruins. Now That We've Come...To The End Of The Road

I really hope you sing that song like Boyz II Men. Like, reallllllllly do. So here we are folks. The Bruins are finishing off the regular season against a team that was supposed to take the division, but instead won't even be making the playoffs. This is a double edged "sabre" if you will for us here at Days of Y'Orr. We love the fact that Buffalo pooped all over...

Ty Anderson: Bruins erase two-goal deficit, beat Sabres in shootout

Despite some utterly moronic rumblings that the eliminated Buffalo Sabres would be out for 'revenge' against the Boston Bruins in their final meeting of the season, also known as aiming to injure Bruins skaters prior to the start of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the most physicality in this one came in the first period with the Bruins as the aggressors. Bothered by a...

GARTH: Re-Group

In the end, the Sabres showed up and competed hard in their final game of a most disappointing season. Lindy Ruff set high expectations for his team for Game 82. He demanded that each and every man give his all against Boston. The coach got the effort and attitude that he had demanded. Squandering a two goal lead in the third period leaves a bad taste in ones's mouth....

GARTH: Miller:Missing The Playoffs Is Embarrassing

Earlier this season, when his team were cruising along at a 10-5 clip, Ryan Miller and the Sabres appeared to be an impressive assemblage of NHL talent. The "core" were intact, and were showing signs of maturation and growth. The kids were beginning to play like they could stick and stay at the NHL level. The new guys, who joined the club by way of trade or free agency...

Buffalo Sabre Ryan Miller Turned Washington Capital Brooks Laich Into Mark Messier

During a radio appearance on Washington, DC's 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday, Washington Capital center and alternate captain Brooks Laich expressed his confidence in his team's postseason ambitions, despite a devastating regulation loss to division rival Tampa Bay only two nights earlier:"We're not talking worst-case scenario.  We're making the playoffs." ...

With Roy’s Criticism Of Ruff, Is It Time For Management To Think About A Change

Derek Roy criticized Lindy Ruff's coaching methods at locker clean out day The Sabres are heading into the 2012 offseason with far more questions than answers. The biggest question is what to do with their “core” group of players: Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, and Ryan Miller. The player who made the most “controversial” remark at locker clean-out day Monday...

A Wasted Year

from John Vogl of the Buffalo News, There are seasons when it’s understandable and even OK to miss the playoffs. Teams can use their also-ran status as a learning experience that will benefit the organization in the long run. Not the Buffalo Sabres. Not this year. There’s no way to rationalize a playoff absence. There’s nothing to be learned by a roster full of players in...
