Now that the 2013 regular season is in the books for the New York Rangers, it's time to have a little fun. Let us revisit the season predictions of The New York Rangers Blog and see how right, or dead wrong, we all were. First up, congratulations are in order for Adam Herman. He got NOTHING wrong, primarily because he didn't bother to make any predictions. Way to play it safe, Hermie. Let's begin with the master himself... "Muted" Kevin DeLury. He decided to "reverse mush" the Rangers, hoping they would far exceed the lowest of low expectations he set. Here are a sample of DeLury's bold predictions:   "The Rangers will be a huge disappointment this year ending the season in second to last place in the Eastern Conference" - 6th is kind of close to 14th. It's in the ballpark. "The Rangers power play will hit a record low 1% success rate." -This one is almost accurate. "Henrik Lundqvist will have a Vezina hangover and finish the season with just 10 wins, 7.55 gaa and .650 sv%." -Evidently, Kevin thought Lundqvist was going to be Rick DiPietro. Kevin did manage to unintentionally hit one square on the head. "Carl Hagelin will fall into a sophomore slump and Chris Kreider’s inexperience will be exposed." -Hagelin suffered bouts of inconsistency in his 2nd NHL season. He plays a top-six role but doesn't score enough to be effective there. Meanwhile, Kreider's inexperience was exposed, but Tortorella didn't trust the youngster to play him enough. Chalk that up to the shortened season.  Next up, myself. I took a realistic approach to making predictions. And the result? Really awful. "Rangers will finish 2nd in the Atlantic, behind the Penguins. *going bold here and say order will be PIT, NYR, PHI, NYI and NJD." - I actually got this right, with the exception of where NYI and PHI finished. Kudos to me for predicting the Devils' demise this year. "Rick Nash will not crack 20 goals. In fact, Chris Kreider (17 goals) will finish with more goals than Nash (16 goals)." - Yeah, about that... "Arron Asham will become a fan favorite, replacing Sean Avery's popularity." - It hurts just reading that. Finally, Neill takes a stab at making some predictions. And, I will say, Neill peered into the future and saw the Rangers trading Marian Gaborik. "Rangers prediction: 32-12-4 68 points; 1st in East." -Boldly done, for sure. "Rick Nash finishes top 3 in the league in goals. He'll be the only Ranger north of 25 goals." - Nash finished in the top 10 so not far off.  "The Rangers will make a big move at the trade deadline and it won't be for a stiff like John Scott." -Rangers traded Gaborik for Brassard, Moore and Dorsett. Big move indeed that fueled NYR's 10-3-1 record to close out the season and make the playoffs. There you have it, the predictions of TheNYRBlog staff. We shouldn't quit our day jobs that's for sure.
