Found March 07, 2013 on The Victory Formation:
Here in the US, we tend to not notice most Canadian musicians (until they have a big hit on radio, right Barenaked Ladies?). Lost in the shuffle is old time Canadian folk singer, Stompin’ Tom Connors. Now being a folk singer (and Canadian), he never really became popular here in the States.  He had a few hits, and  became very well known in Canada.  There is one song of his, however, that did jump the border and become well knows, at least to us hockey fans.  That’s right, old Stompin’ Tom sang “The Hockey Song” You’re probably heard it, but only in snippets and, shockingly, during a hockey game (I know that’s the case for me).  The song would stick in my head, but never long enough to search it out and find out who sang it.  Or listen to the entire song, for that matter.  To remedy that, the entire song is after the jump.  Raise a Molson, and toast to Stompin’ Tom. Sens rookie concussed in fight with McLaren

Welcome to the NHL, David Dziurzynski. The Senators rookie dropped the gloves for the first time in his NHL career Wednesday night, but he picked the wrong man to go up against. Dziurzynski didn’t stand a chance against Maple Leafs enforcer Frazer McLaren, who dropped the 23-year-old to the ice with a series of hard rights. The Senators’ Twitter account reported that the forward suffered...

Frazer McLaren drops Dave Dziurzynski in first minute of Sens-Leafs game (Video)

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Frazer McLaren knocked out Ottawa Senators forward Dave Dziurzynski during a fight in the first minute of Wednesday night's game at the Air Canada Centre. The fight lasted under 20 seconds, with McLaren dropping Dziurzynski and knocking him out of the game just three seconds into his first shift. The Senators later announced that Dziurzynski had...

Maple Leafs’ Frazer McLaren drops Senators rookie David Dziurzynski

Welcome to the NHL rookie… David Dziurzynski reached a milestone Wednesday night in his young career. He got into his first ever NHL fight, and subsequently lost his first NHL fight.

McLaren feels pain, then delivers it

Frazer McLaren needed eight stitches to close the cut on his chin from a fight, another four for a gash on his cheek carved open by a stick later in the game. Still, it was McLaren who delivered the most damaging blow of the night. Phil Kessel had a goal and two assists to help the Toronto Maple Leafs hold off the Ottawa Senators 5-4 on Wednesday in a game highlighted by a knockout...

Decisions Looming for Dave Nonis and the Toronto Maple Leafs

Photo courtesy of Veronica Henri/Toronto Sun/QMI Agency By Tony Ambrogio (@SNTonyAmbrogio) Dave Nonis could have a busy few months ahead. And his decisions could impact the Leafs now and moving forward. Nonis traded a 4th liner in Mike Brown to Edmonton and Matt Frattin is coming off a knee injury. An issue that promises to be interesting to watch will be finding a spot for Joffrey...

Who Is the Latest Maple Leaf to Be Inducted Into the Hockey Hall of Fame?

The Maple Leafs don’t have to go far to hit up the Hockey Hall of Fame. It’s a few short strides from Air Canada Centre — just head north on Bay Street, bang a right onto Front Street, walk past a Tim Horton’s (yes, just one Tim Horton’s) and it sits there on the corner of Front and Yonge Streets, roughly 500 meters from the Leafs’ locker room. The Maple Leafs have a...

Toronto Maple Leafs are on a roll

Leaf’s head coach, Randy Carlyle has a few fans in Toronto. Even though the Toronto Maple Leafs won 4- 2 over the New Jersey Devils earlier this week,  head coach, Randy Carlyle was not too impressed with his team’s play in the first 40 minutes of the game.  In fact, he is not satisfied with the progress of the team, despite their recent success.  ”We are not satisfied...

Report: Swedish Forward Carl Soderberg Hoping to Join Bruins After League Playoffs in Europe

While the Bruins dropped the puck Thursday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, it appears the team’s front office may have been up to some work as well. According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, Carl Soderberg is hoping to join Boston after the conclusion of his team’s playoff run. The 27-year-old led the Swedish Elite League in scoring and is widely considered to be...

Keys To The Game Vs. Toronto (Thank You Kessel)

After an ugly and dissapointing loss the Bruins have a shot to bounce back against their North East Division foes. The Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs have lost their glory and are a big reason the Bruins will be great for years to come. In September of 2009 the Bruins traded Phil Kessel to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a first round and second round pick in 2010 and a first in 2011...

Mats Sundin Is the Latest Maple Leafs Player to Be Inducted Into the Hockey Hall of Fame

The Maple Leafs may not have had much success on the ice in recent years, but the city of Toronto has had something to celebrate. Longtime Leafs captain Mats Sundin was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012, capping off a 18-year career with the honor. Sundin was just the second Swedish player to be inducted, and the first to make it on his first year of eligibility. Sundin...

Frazer McLaren Knocks Out David Dziurzynski Cold During NHL Fight

I would like to continue my rant about how NHL players are some of the toughest folks in the sporting world, and the below video will speak for me. Check out how Frazer McLaren left David Dziurzynski not moving on the ice following their scrap during the beginning of the Senators and Maple Leafs game on Wednesday night. Dziurzynski left the game with an obvious concussion. ...

Video: Frazer McLaren knocks out Dave Dziurzynski

Dave Dziurzynski only has nine games of NHL experience with the Ottawa Senators this season, and this might be one of those nine that he'd like to forget -- if he can remember it to begin with. The rookie made the mistake of going toe-to-toe with Toronto Maple Leafs tough guy Frazer McLaren, just 26 seconds into the game. It was a quick fight with a scary ending for Dziurzynski...

Bruins-Maple Leafs Live: B’s Return Home Looking to Continue Dominance of Leafs

8 a.m. ET: The Northeast Division is arguably the best in the league, and a lot of that has to do with the Toronto Maple Leafs’ resurgence. While former general manager Brian Burke was fired before the start of the season, his plan is still in place, and it’s finally starting to see success. The Leafs come into Boston on Thursday and they are coming in hot. Toronto sits just...
