Rockford IceHogs Add Jared Nightingale as Assistant Coach

Jared Nightingale joined the Rockford IceHogs as an assistant coach Tuesday.

Nightingale fills the vacancy left by Anders Sorensen, who was promoted to Rockford interim coach when Derek King was elevated to the Chicago Blackhawks interim coaching position Nov. 6.

Nightingale, a former defenseman, scored four points (one goal, three assists) in 67 games as IceHogs captain during the 2013-14 season. He scored 102 points (23 goals, 79 assists) in 674 games between the AHL and ECHL during his playing career.

Nightingale began his coaching career as an assistant for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL for the 2017-18 season. He then moved to Michigan to be an assistant for the United States National Development Program for one season. Nightingale then became an associate coach for the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL before moving to the Flint Firebirds of the OHL as an assistant.

Nightingale’s brief coaching history has connections to the IceHogs. He coached Rockford forward D.J. Busdeker in Saginaw and was on Flint’s staff, which is led by former IceHogs head coach Ted Dent.
