Both Mats Sundin (Toronto) and Jeremy Roenick (Phoenix) were honored by their former teams last night, as each had their number retired by their respective teams.

Sundin, who played 13 season with the Maple Leafs, had his No. 13 raised high to the rafters of the Air Canada Centre, prior to the Leafs contest with the Montreal Canadiens.

Over his 13 seasons in Toronto, the former Leafs' captain notched his name in their storied history, as he is their current all-time goals leader (420) and leads the franchise in points with 987.

Sundin's number, which joins fellow Swede Borje Salming's No. 21 in the rafters, is only the 18th number to be retired by the organization.

The celebrations weren't over, however, as Roenick's No. 97 was sent high to the Coyotes' Ring of Honor. Roenick, who spent six years of his 20-year NHL career in the desert is the fourth (third player) to enter the Ring of Honor as a Coyote, joining former teammates Teppo Numminen and Keith Tkachuk. Wayne Gretzky's No. 99 is also included in the Ring, as well as former Winnipeg Jets (the original edition), Bobby Hull, Dale Hawerchuk and Thomas Steen.

The celebration was held prior to the Coyotes' 3-0 shutout over Roenick's other former team, the Chicago Blackhawks. While immensely honored by the Coyotes' gesture, Roenick was adamant that he hopes to have his No. 27 one day retired by the Blackhawks as well, where he spent the first eight years of his career, before being traded to the Coyotes prior to the '96-97 season.
