This stirkes me as a particularly timely reminder. DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose reminds us that new Red Wings forward Jordin Tootoo is signing autographs tomorrow at Hockeytown Authentics to give "Team Tootoo" some Michigan legs:
Though more then 10 years has passed since his brother’s suicide, the topic is just too sensitive for Jordin Tootoo to discuss publicly, telling reporters Thursday, “I’m not going to get into details.”
Two years ago, Tootoo’s silence was funneled toward his philanthropic priorities meant to draw attention to suicide awareness and prevention, especially among children and at-risk teenagers. Tootoo used the suicide death of his older brother, Terence, who was a rising hockey star in his own right, to establish the Team Tootoo Fund, which seeks to assist those non-profit foundations.
“I got it going a couple of years ago in Nashville,” said Tootoo, who registered his first goal in a Red Wings’ sweater on Tuesday at Bridgestone Ar...

The Red Wings-Blue Jackets game is being officiated as something of a farce tonight, and that has nothing to do with the following Tweet from the Detroit News's John Niyo.
During the Artem Anismov collision, the Wings (who found out that Carlo Colaiacovo may not be as close to returning as once thought today) lost another defenseman:
Meanwhile, it looked like Kyle...
Jan Mursak waived
According to Helen St. James of the Detroit Free Press, the Wings waived oft-injured forward Jan Mursak.
Ken Holland stated that the move was done to get Mursak more playing time however James points out that if that extra playing time comes with another team the Wings can live with it.
“He needs to play,” general manager Ken Holland told the Free Press. If...
Slightly strange news from ESPN's Pierre LeBrun regarding Red Wings forward Jan Mursak:
Detroit also places Jan Mursak on waivers today
— Pierre LeBrun (@Real_ESPNLeBrun) February 22, 2013
I'm guessing that the Wings want Mursak to get playing time, but potentially losing a warm body given the injury parade of late seems strange.
The Free Press's Helene...
I spent a significant chunk of last night's recap wondering whether Valtteri Filppula's playing his way out of town given his status as an unrestricted free agent-to-be, the salary cap going down this summer while several of the Wings' top prospects are coming off their entry-level deals, given the NHL-readiness of players like Gustav Nyquist, Joakim Andersson and Tomas...
It's rare that I am embarrassed to be a fan of the Detroit Red Wings.
I am 25 years old now and I've been rooting this team on ever since I was 6. I've always felt and been inspired by the heroics of the players on the ice and the personalities in the locker room.
Steve Yzerman, to this day, is my hero. Forget Be Like Mike. I wanted to grow up to Be Like Steve...
DETROIT (AP) -- The Detroit Red Wings have put Jan Mursak on waivers, giving teams until noon Saturday to claim the 25-year-old left wing.
Mursak has played in only two games for Detroit this season. He had a goal and two assists in 25 games in 2011-12.
The Yugoslavia-born Mursak has two goals and two assists in 46 NHL games, all with Detroit. The Red Wings drafted him in the sixth...
The day after the Detroit Red WIngs' 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, it's not exactly a stunner to hear the Free Press's Helene St. James state that the Wings chose to "take an optional" as the team's going to be playing 2 games over the course of 2 nights this weekend (against Nashville and Vancouver) and will be wrapping up slates of 3-in-4, 4-in...
This cannot be shown, masturbated to enough:
Pavel Datsyuk goes through an entire team for a coast-to-coast goal. You usually only see that **** in SEGA NHL.
Last night, Detroit Red Wings speedster Pavel Datsyuk might have scored the most impressive goal of the shortened NHL season so far.
It happened in the third period of the Red Wings game against the Nashville Predators as Pavel took the puck from his own end and skated past most of the Nashville defense to get a solid shot attempt against Nashville's Pekka Rinne.
Some of the better video’s that get unearthed on the internet because of YouTube are ones from way back when, like this one of Detroit Red Wings legendary right-winger Gordie Howe. Back in the early 70′s, Mr Hockey appeared on the popular game show ‘What’s My Line?’ It was a show where contestants were blind-folded and given a set a questions to figure out who a celebrity...
The Detroit Red Wings have lost 5 straight games (0-3-and-2) and have given up three consecutive 2-0 leads over the past 12 days, with the latest loss coming in the form of a disappointing 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.
Given some TMR readers' comments in the quick take, Vaclav Prospal's game-winning goal scored with 24.7 left in regulation, combined...
The Detroit Red Wings now sit at 0-3-and-2 since their rope-a-dope win over the Los Angeles Kings way back on February 18th, thanks to a 3-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.
The game-winning goal was a microcosm of the season thus far: with time ticking down, the Wings pressed deep, and instead of shooting, Damien Brunner tried to pass the puck to the slot,...

The Detroit Red Wings will be looking to end their four game winless streak tonight when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Joe Louis Arena to commence a vital three-game homestand.

The Detroit Red Wings will face off against the team that defeated them on Tuesday when they welcome the Nashville Predators to Joe Louis Arena tonight (7 PM EST, FSD Plus/FS Tennessee/NHL Network/AM 1270), beginning a back-to-back slate of games that would have been more tolerably approached had Detroit not come into the weekend on an 0-3-and-2 slide.
Tonight, the Wings will play...
Wings' Ken Holland said Jimmy Howard has been cleared and is available to play tomorrow.
