Should they or shouldn’t they? Headline: Pavel Bure I never liked you, but damn you were good at hockey. Hey everyone seems like these Canucks posts are few and far between these days. Well, let us hope that the powers that be get things sorted out right quick here. In the meantime we’ve got a little bit of news. It was reported last night by the Provinces Jason Botchford that the Canucks were preparing to retire Pavel Bure’s number 10. While most of Vancouver’s fan base let out a collective “It’s about time”. I know I ate a lot of crow hearing about the retirement. But, I may have started to get things ready for crow pie to early, because another report today from Iain MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun says that it’s not only not happening, but the team it self knows nothing of this. So, what now? Well it’s obvious what’s next. We’re going to have a Botchford v MacIntyre bare-knuckled boxing match. Pavel Bure I never liked you, but damn you were good at hockey. If you’re a betting man, go with Botch. He’s reduced Mike Johnson to tears off air many times. Look, this is something that’s always going to be up for debate until it either happens, or there final nail is nailed in the Bure doesn’t want anything to do with Vancouver coffin. People will always talk about how great of a player Pavel was and how he is perhaps responsible for helping saving hockey in Vancouver at one point. However, people will also talk about how they believe a retirement of ones number is more than just what he did on the ice. There’s no denying Bure’s on ice talent and his ability to make people leave their seats, but when you leave town so acrimoniously and don’t continue to keep in touch with the team or the community there’s something to be said about really deserving that honor. The same thing could be said for Markus Naslund as well, but that’s another debate for another time. Right now the Canucks need to figure out if the most electrifying player to wear a Canucks sweater is worthy of their most prestigious honor. Even if it’s Jeff Marek late in happening, it certainly doesn’t hurt to try to repair a burnt bridge such as this. CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THE CANUCKS CLUBHOUSE TODAY AT NWSPORTSBEAT!
