So, when Buffalowins.com’s head honcho, Joe, and I were talking about what my upcoming column would be about, the topic turned to Ryan Miller. Right now, Miller is the central cog behind the Sabres’ current push to the playoffs. Our consensus was that it’s so strange/interesting/kind of sad how Miller went from being the poster boy of USA hockey after the Vancouver games in 2010 to receiving a Bronx cheer from his own crowd. It was only two years ago that he was the world’s top goaltender and now, while he still certainly shows signs of brilliance, fans that heard trade rumors before last month’s deadline started to think a parting of ways was the best option. Joe likened this fall from grace to a movie that he couldn’t think of — and I agreed. Miller’s polarizing personality, from condescending post-game interviews to openly criticizing the trade of a former teammate, has certainly — at times — caused a disconnect between the franchise goalie and the franchise fans. But every...

Sharks announcers mock jinxes, then try to jinx Ryan Miller

Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres had a shutout near the end of the second period in the Sabres game against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. CSN Bay Area announcers Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda then break ANNOUNCER CODE (GASP!) and start talking about jinxing shutouts, a tenet that is also revered in the MLB during no-hitters. What do they segue their talk about jinxes into? An...

66. Buffalo Sabres at Boston Bruins. Don't Look Now But The Sabres Are In The Hunt

Dont' look now folks, but Buffalo is contending for a playoff spot. Two weeks ago they were basically dead to rights and now they're 2 points out of the 8th spot. That's a big jump considering that Buffalo went from potentially being the best team in the division, to getting injured and falling down the standings quicker than an old woman whose walker was kicked out from...

Calming The Storm

Jason Pominville scored a power play goal just 56 seconds into overtime as the Buffalo Sabres took down the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd at First Niagara Center.
