The same two guys have been on our mind for the past few months. Ryan Suter and Zach Parise.  Suter and Parise.   These are the golden tickets this summer. If we don’t get at least one of those two, puppies will be kicked.   Kittens thrown.  And turtles flipped.  Kenny, think of the turtles. Now, you don’t have to convince me on Parise.   Not only has he lead his team to the Cup final, he’s also a multiple 40 goal scorer and is the definition of clutch (ask Canada). He’s a rich man’s Jonathan Toews.  I see shades of Yzerman in him; you know, the kind of leader that Detroit loves. Plus, I’ve hit on his girlfriend. True story. Anyways, Parise, yes.  But Suter?   Well, color me not convinced.   I think there’s a serious chance someone is going to horribly overpay for him and I hope it’s not Detroit. Hit the jump for more on why I think he's horribly overrated.  Now, admittedly, I’ve not studied the guy.  But whenever I’ve watched Suter play, I’ve seen a great #2

Pay Him: The Case for Ryan Suter

It has recently come to my attention that not everyone is as thrilled with the idea of the Wings offering Suter enough money to feed a third world country as I am. Chris makes a compelling case, for sure, but I think he and those who agree with him are missing a few points here. I'm up against a lawyer, but while working in a retirement home I saw a TON of Law and Order so I...

Plan D for the Wings on defense

With Lidstrom and Stuart gone, the Wings’ will heavily target Nashville defenseman Ryan Suter. The market for Suter is expected to be very competitive though this offseason and there’s always that chance that Suter doesn’t even make it to the market if he re-signs with Nashville. If the Wings don’t get Suter there’s the second-hand options of Matt Carle and Bryce Salvador...

NHL free agency: Landing New Jersey’s Zach Parise could be difficult for Detroit Red Wings

Well, they gave the Los Angeles Kings a brief scare, but Zach Parise and the New Jersey Devils just weren’t enough to down the NHL’s Western Conference champions in the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals. And while his decision is likely further down the road, Parise faces the choice of testing the free-agency market or staying [...]

Fired-up Parise buoys Devils' dream

When Peter DeBoer had finished tossing verbal bouquets toward his captain, Zach Parise, the New Jersey Devils coach had an odd request for the assembled media at the Prudential Center. "I think you guys just [ticked] him off," DeBoer said. "Keep doing it." Parise's tour de force performance in the Devils' 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5...

Zach Parise game five goal

Here is New Jersey Devils and former Fighting Sioux All-American forward Zach Parise's goal in game five against the Los Angeles Kings. That was the first goal of the Stanley Cup Finals for Parise who had been held scoreless in five games for Parise how had been (0g-0a-0pts) and a minus 4 in the last five games going back to the Division Finals against the New York Rangers...

Parise finally scores after six game drought

The sound you heard was a sigh of relief from New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise has he scored his first goal in six games for the New Jersey Devils. That being said, it's not just Parise that has found the sledding to be tough, the New Jersey Devils top forward line of Zach Parise (1g-0a-1pts), Travis Zajac (0g-2a-2pts) and Ilya Kovalchuk (1g-0a-1pts) has been stymied...

Will Zach Parise join the newly crowned Kings?

The Los Angeles Kings are the latest team to hoist the Stanley Cup. The victory parade hasn't even taken place and already rumors are surfacing about what the Los Angeles Kings may or may not do over the summer in terms of free agency. The Kings will have plenty of new revenue this summer if they are looking to expand their current payroll. The Cup victory should bring in a healthy...

Red WIngs mid-day quickies: on Semin, a Rufenach tribute and the great chain of citation

On what remains a somewhat quiet Saturday in terms of Red Wings news… The biggest story of this afternoon’s news cycle involves the Wings’ most likely Zach Parise back-up plan in one Alex Semin. Via a heads-up from Sports.ru, Semin spoke to Sport-Express (the article lists no author some reason), and if you’re a fan of the streaky scorer, especially given his chemistry with...

The Devils Now Face Three Questions

via Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger, The Devils’ fight for the Stanley Cup ended last night with a loss to the Kings. Now general manager Lou Lamoriello will turn his attention to some serious offseason issues: 1. RE-SIGN ZACH PARISE. It is not likely to happen before the Devils’ captain becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1. Lamoriello will have some big money to spend on...

Devils win Game 5, make it a series

There were a lot of ‘firsts’ that came from tonight’s 2-1 Game 5 win for the New Jersey Devils.  Most importantly, for the first time this postseason the Kings looked outside of their element and have watched the Devils inch back into the series. For the first time since 1945, a team trailing 3-0 in the Stanley Cup Final has forced a Game 6.  How did the Devils do it tonight...

Potential UFA Target: Shane Doan

After Zach Parise and Ryan Suter (and perhaps Justin Schultz), the most popular free agent this summer may turn out to be right wing Shane Doan. The eight-year captain of the Phoenix Coyotes has long been revered as a fearsome competitor, respected leader and solid scorer. For years the Coyotes have lacked a bona fide star, but Doan has been the organization’s rock and has led...

Brought to you by booze

In the tradition of last year... remmeber, a big ol' [sic]. This year, it's in bullet points because I am lazy as hell.  When you look at the LA Kings logo sideways, it looks like a wild animal or some sort of skull with teeth Eveyrone has awesome beards except for  Zach Parise. He looks like he belongs on “Svaed by the bell: the millennium class” At least Kings...

Fantasy Hockey Playoff ONE: Kings-Devils SIX!

Now here we are........please note this obviously could be the last game of the season tonight. If not, the scene shifts back to New Jersey on Wednesday for a Game 7. It is Monday already and time for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Los Angeles Kings and the New Jersey Devils. When you have an eight seed up against a six seed, one has to say that this is just...

Devils halfway to historic comeback

In retrospect the NHL probably should have stuck with its’ old Stanley Cup Final campaign, “history will be made,” because the New Jersey Devils are on the verge of doing just that. After going down 3-0 in the series to the Los Angeles Kings, the Devils have made a triumphant comeback to cut the series lead to just one game and put the brakes on what seemed to be an all but...

Devils Win, Back To LA For Game 6

The New Jersey Devils defeated the Los Angeles Kings 2-1 tonight to force a Game 6 in LA Monday night. I believe all the pressure is now on the Kings to win Monday (their game 7) in order to avoid making another cross-country trip and face even more pressure of a real Game 7 on Wednesday. Watch the game-winning goal from Bryce Salvador midway through the 2nd period. Below, watch...
