Last night, the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings faced off in a hugely important divisional match-up which unfortunately resulted in a Kings 6-5 shootout loss. At stake for the Kings was the potential to clinch the division and of course a little redemption from last year’s postseason. The game had a very gritty, playoff-type feel to it, resulting in a combined total of 63 penalty minutes and 10 regulation goals. The important storyline to note here is not the fact that the Kings were able to score 5 goals, or that Jonathan Quick gave up 5, but that the San Jose Sharks find it necessary to cheat in order to win games.

The Kings held a consistent lead until well into the third period when Anze Kopitar was called for a completely BS tripping penalty, which ended up leading to a Sharks goal and giving them the 5-4 lead. With just under 4 minutes to go, Justin Williams tied it up on the power play with a beautiful feed from Mike Richards to keep the Kings in the game. Very shortly after the Kings tied it up, Jarret Stoll carried the puck up the ice and led what looked to be a very promising 3-on-2 rush towards the Sharks net. Here’s where it gets interesting: Ryane Clowe, a.k.a. the biggest chump in the NHL excluding his even more awful captain Joe Thornton, decided to PLAY THE PUCK FROM THE BENCH and break up the rush. The worst part about this is that not one of the four idiots wearing stripes witnessed what happened and this goon got away with a VERY ILLEGAL and POTENTIALLY GAME CHANGING play.

I’m not sure what they would have called for that- too many men? unsportsmanlike conduct? Either way, he should have been penalized and maybe we’ll be hearing of a “Ryane Clowe Rule” much like the “Sean Avery Rule” in our near future.
