If Sunday’s Sharks win over the Canucks was scored in pure hatred for the other team, the score would have been a lot closer than the actual 4-1 tally. The bitter dislike each team has for the other was starkly evident. The physical nature, multiple fights and litany of penalties (84 total penalty minutes were handed down) were all indications of the intensity between impassioned foes. Nobody was more involved in the contentiousness of the game than Ryane Clowe, who racked up a staggering 35 penalty minutes (the Sharks had 51 minutes in all), including a game misconduct. Think he feels sorry for letting things get out of hand? Think again. From David Pollak: “There’s no secret how I play. I’m an intense guy and I’m an emotional guy. I try to play on the edge and sometimes you go over,” Clowe said. “I don’t make any apologies for that. I don’t like taking those penalties, that extra penalty where you hurt your team. Obviously that wasn’t my plan, but I don’t make any apologies for g...

A look at the rook
Just thought I would check in and take a quick look at Canucks rookie Jordan Schroeder. Schroeder was called up to the Canucks almost as fast as he was sent down.
After two disappointing games with Andrew Ebbett as the second line center, master juggler and lozenge enthusiast, Alain Vigneault did a little line juggling.
Included in that juggling was the call up...
That Can’t Be Good
Vancouver Canucks goalie in the wings, Eddie Lack, has had successful hip surgery and will miss the remainder of the season. Lack, who signed a two-year, two-way deal this summer with the Canucks, has been out since November with hip related issues.
Mike Gillis said in a statement on the Canucks website today:
“After consultation with our team physicians, it...
Best & Worst Nucks
It may be an unusual season in terms of length in this post-lockout world, but aside from that it’s yet another year and yet another slow start for the Vancouver Canucks.
However, unless the uncertain tangle the team is in gets unravelled mighty quick this year could be done and dusted. The middling start for the team matches the indifferent performance of...
For the week of January 20-27
The Vancouver Canucks‘ first week (and a bit) of the new shortened NHL season is in the books. Entering Monday the C’s owned a record of 2-2-1 and sit near the middle of the pack in the Western Conference. The reduced number of games in this lockout-altered season means that each game matters that much more than in typical years.
If you’re a Canucks...
Last night was full of disappointment for the Canucks, but the compressed schedule means it’s a fresh sheet of ice tonight in Los Angeles. There lie the Kings, who eliminated the Canucks last year. LA is struggling, having finally picked their first win on Saturday.
Matchup: Vancouver Canucks (2-2-1) v Los Angeles Kings (1-2-1)
Venue: Staples Center
Time: 7:30 pm
It should come as no surprise that Patrick Marleau has been named the first star of the week by the NHL.Marleau has enjoyed a scorching hot start to the season with a league-leading nine goals and 13 points in only five contests. In the process, he became the second player in NHL history, and first since Cy Denneny back in 1917-18, to record four consecutive multi-goal games to begin...
Michal Handzus scored the lone goal in a shootout on the first attempt to give the unbeaten San Jose Sharks a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night.
Logan Couture scored for San Jose with less than 3 minutes left in the third period to tie the game at 2. He ripped a shot that appeared to deflect off the skates of Bryan Allen and trickled past Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller...

Headline: Canucks In LA Monday Looking To Climb Over .500
You can forgive the Canucks just a little bit for their 5-1 Sunday loss in San Jose – nobody has come close to beating the Sharks so far in this young season. On Monday night, the Canucks take on the LA Kings, a team that has stumbled out of the gate – a 4-2 win last time out over Phoenix Saturday...
Roberto Luongo made 24 saves for his first win of the season and the Vancouver Canucks beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Luongo, who has been on the trading block since Cory Schneider replaced him as Vancouver's No. 1 goaltender, was rarely tested but still made some big saves in his 61st career shutout.
With the Canucks leading 2-0 in the third, Luongo stopped...
Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton have found the perfect way to silence the talk about whether their window for success is closing in San Jose.
With Marleau scoring goals at a record pace to start the lockout-shortened season and Thornton at his playmaking best, the Sharks have won their first five games to get off to the best start in franchise history.
They'll look to continue...
While the San Jose Sharks are enjoying their best start in franchise history, coach Todd McLellan feels they still need to tighten some things up.
The Edmonton Oilers can't be happy to hear that.
San Jose, the NHL's last remaining unbeaten, tries to pick up another two points and continue its recent dominance of the visiting Oilers as these clubs meet for the second time...
Friday, January 25: The Worcester Sharks defeated the Springfield Falcons 3-1 in Springfield. The Falcons' Scott Howes opened the scoring at 3:07, with assists to Brian Helmer and Andrew Joudrey. Tommy Grant, acquired by San Jose in the Brandon Mashinter trade, tied the game just over a minute later with an unassisted short handed goal. It wasn't until the...

Flat, nonchalant, disinterested, ordinary⦠are all words that could describe most of the Vancouver Canucks play last night.
But one man stood tall and the team got the bounces to earn a point they had no business getting.
This game must have been like old times in Florida for Luongo...
