You remember Mike Grier? Good dude. Played hard every night. Very easy to figure out what he brought to the table; Leadership, grit and checking. He had a identity because he played hard every night and it was easy to figure out what he was doing right. I have no clue what the Sabres identity is today and frankly, I don't even think they do. In watching the last couple of games with the Rochester kids, you have to come away with being impressed with the way these guys know how to hit. Tropp, Kassian, McNabb and Chewey seem to be gritty guys that your typical Buffalo fan would love. However, when you look at the parent club, they are totally different. They are a finesse group with a couple of grinders (Who can't stay healthy) and that's about it. It's just odd that we have two different squads with two different styles. It's Slapshot vs. Mighty Ducks. Allow me to try and not go through a post by saying "It's only November" for a change. I get it...

GARTH: Kassian Chucks The Knucks

Zack Kassian has made quite a statement to Buffalo management since his first ever NHL recall last Friday. He's played three games, and has made the score sheet in two, and dropped the gloves in the other. Kassian assisted on the Sabres only goal on Friday night in Columbus. He scored his first NHL goal against Vokoun and the Caps on Saturday night. On this night,...

Sabres sign Finley to multi-year deal

Former Fighting Sioux defenseman Joe Finley has been signed by the Buffalo Sabres. If you have lost track of Joe Finley, this is the first year since leaving college that big Joe has been remotely healthy. If you go to Joe Finley Hockey fights page you will see that Joe has been wracking up the fights as well since leaving college. Sounds like Finley is doing what ever it takes to...

Sabres Fail To Convert In The Clutch, Lose At Home Again

Buffalo, NY – There’s something about the Buffalo Sabres playing the teams at the bottom of the NHL standings – they just can’t seem to beat them.  Jhonas Enroth played a strong game, making 29 saves, but even that couldn’t lead the Sabres to victory as they fell 2-1 to the New York Islanders in front of a restless and riot-ready crowd at the First Niagara Center. The...

GAME PREVIEW: Islanders @ Sabres (Tuesday, November 29, 2011)

Another day, another home game for the Buffalo Sabres (13-9-1). Buffalo can’t seem to crack the .500 mark at home this season, compiling a 6-6-1 record at the First Niagara Center in 2011. On Tuesday night they face off against the New York Islanders (6-11-4) who have struggled to win anywhere this season. The Sabres will try to carry the momentum from their strong home victory...

You want to tempt the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing?

I missed almost all of the first period thanks to my regular babysitting gig. I watched the second and zoned out for much of the third. The TV was on and I was kind of paying attention, but it was clear it wasn't the Sabres' night, and I wasn't sitting in front of Twitter so I curled up on the couch with my Kindle and focused more on what I was reading than what I was...

Fight Video: Zack Kassian, Matt Martin, enthusiasm over accuracy

Buffalo Sabres fans have been waiting for Zach Kassian to bring his particular brand of whimsy to the NHL, especially after that exercise in pacifism against the Boston Bruins after Lucic/Miller. On Tuesday night, the Sabres played the New York Islanders; in his third NHL game, Kassian had his first NHL fight against Matt Martin. What it lacked in accuracy it made up for in enthusiasm...
