Pegulaville, as Buffalo Sabres fans affectionately call the city in tribute to the team's owner, is expanding. Some 18 months after purchasing the NHL franchise, Terry Pegula is now preparing to contribute to Buffalo's downtown redevelopment. The Pennsylvania billionaire's proposal to build a $123 million multipurpose facility that includes two ice rinks and a 200-room hotel was approved by the city last week. Construction is set to begin in March. For Buffalo, it's the latest in a string of projects set to be built on prime land along the newly redeveloped Canalside harbor front district. For Pegula, who made his fortune in the natural gas industry, it's the latest multimillion dollar endeavor to fulfill his various passions that include hockey, his alma mater Penn State, and his adopted hometown.
