Shanahan explains Ville Leino’s 1-game suspension for Read elbow

Let's get the important question out of the way first: Is this a new set for the Shanaban videos? No more giant video screens and blue mood lighting? Now we've apparently got the giant faux ice wall and calming earth tones. We're still holding out for a "Mad Money" control center with sound effects like a sad trombone. OK, and also for a puppet sidekick. That...

By Alexander Monaghan President On Tuesday night, the Colorado Avalanche came into their away game against the Vancouver Canucks with a game plan. Why salary cap makes realignment work

Six months ago, the Thrashers pulled up stakes in Atlanta, Georgia, setting up shop smack in the middle of nowhere hockey country; the citizens of Winnipeg celebrated for weeks. This simple but sudden move set the wheels in motion for the most radical realignment we’ve seen in the NHL in a generation. Monday, with an hour’s businesslike discussion, the NHL’s council of most...

Artem Anisimov scores, shoots Lightning with stick.

After an extremely busy day at the offices of NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan, I expect him to be meeting with 1, maybe 2 more players. After Artem Anisimov scored for the New York Rangers, he promptly turned his stick into a gun, and fake shot the Tampa Bay Lightning goalie. This prompted an on-ice scuffle, and as you’ll see in the video, Steve Downie...
