Canes forward Sergei Samsonov said the team's successful late-season run came after it finally developed a team identity.
And how would he define that identity?
"Hard to play against," Samsonov said.
"We became a hard team to play against," he said today after his exit interview with general manager Jim Rutherford at the RBC Center. "We were not necessarily a run and gun team. We were more patient, and in that way we were harder to play against."
The Canes' style helped them beat New Jersey and Boston in the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs. But they got away from it against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the Eastern Conference finals, Samsonov said.
"We made some mistakes that we were making earlier in the season but had not made in the last two-three months of the season," he said. "The effort was there again. But there's something we need to learn, maybe next year: not to get carried away. I thought we...
