Sharks general manager Doug Wilson refuses to confirm that head coach Todd McLellan will back next season, although that will almost certainly be the case. What is the hold-up?The San Jose Mercury News suggests there are ongoing discussions about the make-up of the entire staff. A number of former NHL players appear to be in line for an assistant coaching job with the team, including Bryan Marchment, Dirk Graham and Mike Ricci. In particular, the Sharks braintrust is mulling over how to repair the team’s disastrous penalty killing effort. That was the purview of assistant coach Jay Woodcroft, who is the on the discussion points. It appears McLellan will get one more chance to move the Sharks into Stanley Cup contention. But it also appears his staff could have a different look.Marchment, Graham and Ricci were all gritty NHL players. They were somewhat dirty players, too, so perhaps hiring one of these guys would help make the Sharks less pleasant to play against.
