Despite the NHL season still not yet being upon us, Florida Panthers youngster Jacob Markstrom’s credentials as a NHL starting goaltender are already being dismissed by some.  After a year in which the Panthers conceded 170 non-shootout goals, 11 more than any NHL team, Markstrom could have a massive role to play in boosting the Floridian’s odds of bouncing back from a dismal 2012/13 season.  Markstrom’s ascension to the starting goaltender position comes following Florida’s decision in not re-signing Jose Theodore. With Scott Clemmensen providing back-up, Markstrom will now begin the season as the Panthers main man between the posts.  Many of Markstrom doubters will point to the 68 goals conceded in 23 games last season for a 3.22 goals-against average that resulted in an 8-14-1 record.
