Video: NHL Suspends Brayden Schenn For One Game

I can't say that I agree with this suspension at all. Earlier today, Flyers' forward Brayden Schenn met with Brendan Shanahan about his hit on Anton Volchenkov in the second period of last night's contest. The video, shown below, is Shanahan's description of why it is deserving of a one-game suspension. Volchenkov spoke with Schenn after the game as well, and told...

When It Rains, It Pours; Scott Hartnell Out Indefinitely

If you thought that the start of the Flyers' season couldn't get any worse, you were wrong. First line forward Scott Hartnell has been ruled out indefinitely with a left foot injury. Hartnell suffered the injury in last night's 3-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils when he took a Kimmo Timonen shot from the point off of his foot. The team hopes to learn more about the injury...

Luke Schenn is the first player suspended

Well that didn't take lone. Just three days into the lockout shortened 2013 season, Philadelphia Flyers forward Luke Schemm is the first player suspended by Brendan Shannahan. Actually, I have no problem with the suspension and this suspension should set the tone going forward. After 247 days, the @nhlshanahan account is back in use. The lockout is officially over! —...

Simmonds, Voracek fuel Flyers

Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek scored to help the Philadelphia Flyers win their first game of the season, 2-1 over the New York Rangers on Thursday night. The Flyers not only avoided their first 0-4 start in team history, they beat the Rangers for the first time in two seasons. The Rangers defeated the Flyers all six games last season, including a win in the Winter Classic. Both...

Flyers end eight-game losing streak vs. Rangers

PHILADELPHIA -- With a big boost from Ilya Bryzgalov and their penalty-killing unit, the Philadelphia Flyers achieved a rare feat: A win over the New York Rangers. Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek scored goals, Bryzgalov stopped 18 shots and the Flyers beat the Rangers 2-1 Thursday night to prevent the first 0-4 start in franchise history and snap an eight-game losing streak against...

Rangers-Flyers Preview

Off to their worst start in 17 seasons, the Philadelphia Flyers are eager to turn things around. Doing so, however, could prove difficult with Scott Hartnell out indefinitely. In their first game since losing Hartnell to a left foot injury, the Flyers try to pick up their first points Thursday night against a New York Rangers team that's had their number of late. After getting...

Richard Cloutier: Oilers Claim Hovinen

On Friday, the Edmonton Oilers claimed tree-like goaltender Niko Hovinen off of waivers. Hovinen was part of the Philadelphia Flyers, spending most of this year playing in the ECHL. The 6' 7", 200lbs 24 year old was previously playing for the Lahti Pelicans of the Finnish League. What does this mean? A few things: 1. Nikolai Khabibulin's injury situation is worse...

Knuble No Longer In Grand Rapids

He's headed to Philadelphia to take a physical tomorrow and if he passes, the Flyers will sign him.  The Flyers hope Knuble will help after Hartnell broke his foot. I don't think Knuble had a chance with the Wings this season, but if he was a defenseman, that would have been another story.
