TEAMS: New York Rangers
The existence of "24/7" this season has changed the way you take in a Rangers game.
It is impossible not to think about how John Tortorella would respond to a mistake on the ice and imagine just where he'd slip curses into his evisceration of the guilty player.
That question came up a lot during Wednesday night's 4-1 loss to the Capitals because the Rangers kept making terrible mistakes.
Brian Boyle, John Mitchell and Brad Richards would certainly be on the receiving end of Tortorella's heat after a second period that saw them all make terrible giveaways that led to two Caps goals. But the entire team probably deserves to be thrashed after a night that saw them eschew hitting and aggressive hockey for a sleepy approach that makes it seem like they were already looking ahead to next Monday and the Winter Classic.
Tortorella gave a little preview of what the cameras might have caught inside the locker room. No expletives, but you could do a little adult Mad Lib...

Not So Breaking News: Sean Avery Placed On Waivers
As predicted here, Sean Avery has been waived by the Rangers. This is a salary cap move, as Avery and his $1.9 million salary needs to be cleared, especially if he’s not even playing.
We covered this here, here, here, here, and here. I’m actually incredibly sick of this topic. Avery has become bigger than the team, which is impressive considering he’s a fourth liner. He barely...
Stralman’s Short Stay
One of the more underrated aspects of the Rangers recent impressive stretch is Anton Stralman stepping up and playing solidly on the second pair. Increased minutes (17/game), sound defense (+9 rating) and a decent offensive game (5 assists in just 12 games); Stralman has helped ease the Rangers through a torrid stretch of injuries on their blue line. However, we probably shouldn’t...
Video: New York Rangers’ HBO 24/7 ugly holiday sweater party
Episode 3 of "HBO 24/7 Flyers Rangers: Road To The NHL Winter Classic" was a combination of on-ice rivalries (featuring often hilarious chirping of opponents) and off-ice holiday gatherings among family, friends and teammates. Teammates in ugly, ugly sweaters.
The highlight of the episode in the latter category was the New York Rangers' ugly sweater party. Do not adjust...
Rangers at Capitals tonight
Interesting hockey day.
First, the holiday roster freeze is now over, which means the Rangers could be shedding some bodies soon. And one of those is probably going to be pretty controversial.
This afternoon at 3:30, Team USA plays Finland in the World Junior Championships on NHL Network.
Your boys start a three-game trip in D.C. against Dale Hunter’s spiraling Capitals at...
Hockey Player’s Ugly X-Mas Sweater Features A Reindeer Threesome (Video)
HBO’s 24/7 series has had many great moments already this season as it follows the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers as they prepare for the Winter Classic, but in my estimation, the appearance in Episode 3 of the above sweater, worn by Rangers defenseman Michael DelZotto at the team’s “Ugly Sweater” holiday party, has [...]
Rangers Looking to Return to Winning Ways, On Road Against Panthers Tonight
The New York Rangers will look to return to their winning ways tonight in sunny Florida, after losing Wednesday to the Washington Capitals. The Rangers had been riding a five-game winning streak prior to their matchup with the struggling Caps, and were sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings. The defending champion Boston Bruins have since taken over first with a game in...
Game Preview: New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals
TONIGHT’S GAME: The Rangers will face-off against the Washington Capitals tonight at Verizon Center (7:30 p.m.), to begin a three-game road trip culminating in the 2012 Bridgestone Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Blueshirts currently rank first in the Atlantic Division standings, and first in the Eastern Conference, with a record [...]
Rangers waive forward Avery for second time
The New York Rangers have waived controversial winger Sean Avery for the second time this season.
Rangers-Panthers Preview
Two of the New York Rangers' next three games are against the Florida Panthers, but it's safe to say those aren't the ones that will receive the most attention.
The Panthers try to take advantage of New York's distractions surrounding the Winter Classic as the Rangers close their 2011 slate Friday night in Sunrise, Fla.
After this contest, these clubs will finish...

New York Rangers (22-8-4) at Washington Capitals (17-15-2), 7:30 p.m. (ET)
The sizzling New York Rangers will take aim at a sixth straight victory when they visit the Washington Capitals for tonight's clash at the Verizon Center.
Average
That is exactly what the New York Rangers were last night in their 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals.
The team was not terrible but they certainly were not great either. This was a game that with better defensive coverage and less turnovers could have easily been a much better game for the Blueshirts.
What was interesting to see was how the Capitals played. Their team certainly...
