The Bruins have three power play goals in their last four games and have seen their conversation rate bump from a pitiful 9% success rate to a slightly less pitiful 13%. And they've gone from the second worst in the NHL to third worst... hey, baby steps, folks. Just ahead of them on the "awful PP" list is Buffalo (13.6), Columbus (13.6), and Detroit (13.9). Bruins were 1-1 last night, 1-2 against the Sabres and 1-6 against the Sabres again. So why the sudden influx of PPGs? A possibility. We're not ruling it out... yet. But let's take a look at the recent goals. More after the jump.... Here's Marchand's goal from last night. This was a lot of the Jets being too anxious and too aggressive to attack the puck handler -- in this case Bergeron. Patrice carries the puck over the blue line and garners the attention of three of the four Winnipeg penalty killers. That lets Bergern to make a nice, hard pass withi...

As the Bruins continue to take it to the league’s best competition on the ice, they still find time to give back to communities off the ice. A number of Bruins, including head coach Claude Julien, center Tyler Seguin and rookie defenseman Dougie Hamilton, took a trip down to Newtown, Conn., on Monday. The B’s payed their respects to the families and children of Newtown...

7 Bruins Missing From Practice with Flu

ESPN Boston- WILMINGTON, Mass. – The Bruins gained one, but lost seven for Tuesday morning’s practice at Ristuccia Arena. A sizeable school vacation week crowd saw Milan Lucic return to the ice, after missing the Bruins’ Sunday game in Winnipeg for a personal matter. There was plenty of available ice, however, as seven players were held out with flu-like symptoms. The...

Dougie Hamilton’s Early NHL Success Comes as No Surprise to Those Who Watched Him Grow

Dougie Hamilton‘s skill and talent level have been easy to see through the first quarter of his first NHL season. Occasional glimpses of that are to be expected of a first-round draft pick who many pegged as a fixture on the Bruins’ blue line for years to come. However, it is a bit surprising that the 19-year-old has been so effective already. He’s been trusted to play important...

Bruins Players Play Street Hockey With Kids, Sign Autographs During Trip to Newtown, Conn. (Video)

The Bruins were able to provide a day to remember for a community that has withstood such incredible hardship over the past few months. Head coach Claude Julien and a number of B’s players spent Monday in Newtown, Conn., the site of December’s mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Children and families from the community were able to participate in a street hockey clinic...

Brad Marchand Completes ‘Road Trip Rally’ as Bruins Come Back Against Jets (Video)

The Bruins answered the bell against the Jets on Sunday. Then, they did it again. Boston came back from two one-goal deficits to beat Winnipeg in the MTS Centre, claiming the team’s first W in the not-so-friendly Manitoban confines. Despite missing out on some chances early, the Bruins held on in the game’s frantic final seconds to escape with two points. Brad Marchand kept up...

Flu Bug Hits Bruins Practice As Team Prepares to Travel to Tampa (Video)

The Bruins have fully recovered from the injury bug that hit the team earlier this season, but another bug held several B’s players out of practice this week. Seven skaters (and one assistant coach) sat out Tuesday’s workout with flu-like symptoms. Luckily for the team, this moment of poor help falls during a three-day off period, as Boston will not play its next game until Thursday...

Shawn Thornton’s Penalty Shot Highlights Bruins’ Short History With Jets

Bruins fans are accustomed to seeing Shawn Thornton settling things on the ice with his fists, but many forget that he’s capable of pulling some nifty offensive maneuvers as well. That was on display in a game between the B’s and Winnipeg Jets back on Jan. 10, 2012, when the Boston brawler used some fancy stickwork to beat Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec on a penalty shot. But don’t...

Late Second-Period Goal Key in ‘Desperation’ Game for Bruins (Video)

Those who chose to take an early intermission break during Sunday’s Bruins-Jets game were sorely mistaken. Evander Kane scored to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead with 27 seconds remaining in the second period, but the action didn’t cease there. Johnny Boychuk responded for Boston, sending a slap shot that was tipped by teammate Daniel Paille past Ondrej Pavelec with just 1.5 seconds...

Bruins Letting Good Chances Slip Away Again After Getting Burned for It Against Sabres (Video)

The Bruins are getting plenty of good chances against the Winnipeg Jets — now, it’s just up to the B’s to start capitalizing on them. Once again, Boston seems the better team early on, but the scoreboard has yet to reflect that. After seeing a lead slip away against the Sabres that could have been insurmountable, the Bruins would do well to start taking advantage of the chances...

Ryan Miller makes amazing glove save

During the celebration of Hockey Day In America, it’s only fitting that the Buffalo Sabres American goalie Ryan Miller delivered this absolute gem.  Tied 3-3 late in the 3rd period, Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal somehow got wide open in the Sabres zone.  Sidney Crosby hit Neal with a perfect pass, and Ryan Miller miraculously came across the crease and snagged it out...

Late Goals A Huge Issue For Sabres

It’s become an unfortunate reality for the Buffalo Sabres: late period goals against. And on Sunday, the unfortunate happened once again in Buffalo’s 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh. For the sixth time this season, the Sabres gave up a goal with less than 2:30 left to play in a period — a Paul Martin shot with 2:04 remaining. It ended up being the second time that the goal given up...
