After last night’s loss to Boston, Brandon Segal was returned to the Connecticut Whale of the AHL. Segal, who was obviously just filling in for the suspended Arron Asham, played just over five minutes last night, finished with a blocked shot and two PIMs (a hooking call). Thanks to Joe Fortunato of Blueshirt Banter for this one. Tweet

It's early, but Rangers are in a hole

The New York Rangers' home opener got off to an ominous start before the puck ever dropped Sunday night at Madison Square Garden, when Daniel Rodriguez took the ice to perform the national anthem in place of legendary anthem singer John Amirante, a fixture at Rangers games for more than three decades. When Rodriguez emerged from the Zamboni tunnel, the Blueshirts faithful booed...

One game a season does not make

My hair so sexy. Well, the Rangers lost last night. Not only did they lose, but they looked awful in the process. They were rusty, sluggish, sloppy, and looked like they needed another week of training camp. They took bad penalties, and missed defensive zone coverages more often than I can count. The only good thing is that Henrik Lundqvist looked to be in midseason form. But around...

Why Torts Pulled Lundqvist

One of the stranger sights in the Rangers 6-3 loss to the Penguins was John Tortorella's early hook on Henrik Lundqvist. He explains his reasoning here (via NY Post)... “I was not going to keep him in there. It wasn’t him. I wasn’t going to keep him in there with what was going on in front of him.” ...i bet Biron felt good about himself after hearing this. In...

Boyle With Boomer & Carton

The Rangers continued their radio tour this week with Brian Boyle as a guest on the Boomer & Carton show... Your browser does not support iframes. You can also watch by clicking here. ...Carton rubs a lot of people the wrong way, especially hockey fans, but I think he's hysterical. Boyle also previewed to the season with good friend of the blog Danny Picard...

Henrick Lundqvist Understands The Muppets’ Swedish Chef – ‘This Is SportsCenter’

As with every single one of their “This Is SportsCenter” commercials, you will finish watching ESPN’s latest ad and crack a smile. The premise is incredible hard to understand but the YouTube description breaks it down thankfully. “SportsCenter cafeteria has a new chef and Henrik Lundqvist is the only person that can understand him.” See, that wasn’t too difficult...

Penguins F Tanner Glass and Rangers F Arron Asham engage in an epic middleweight fight

In the offseason Arron Asham left the Pittsburgh Penguins for the New York Rangers, and the Penguins signed Tanner Glass to replace him as their enforcer.  The two wasted no time getting acquainted in this epic middleweight fight that started two seconds into the game.My guess is that the two enforcers talked about this, perhaps to get the jitters out, and set up this fight.  After...

No Word on Kreider

Last night Chris Kreider took a vicious hit from Brooks Orpik in the closing minute of the game. Here's the latest on his status... Torts says he has no update on @chriskreider after being on receiving end of hard hit from Brooks Orpik...calls hit "clean" — Jim Cerny (@JimCerny) January 21, 2013 Here's video of the hit... ...that's...

Quiet On the Offensive Front

With a somewhat revamped offense and Rick Nash in the lineup, the New York Rangers' offense was quiet in their season opening 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins. Obviously, it was the first game and players still have to get used to each other, but nevertheless, the Blueshirts did not generate enough offensive pressure. While the Bruins' defensemen are big and do a good job...
